Good news ping!
Very good news.
I like the stricter rules on homilies. But, not in my parish, please. My pastor always gives a 15 or 20 minute homily that is based on the Gospel and that is always intelligent, orthodox, and insightful.
Is this story reputable or is the source sensationalistic? If its completely legit, however, I think that it is a wise and prudent move for the Church to reinstate such simple means of recognition during the Mass.
The worst part about reception in the hand is that Communion lines in most modern parishes have an eerie resemblance to the snack line at my daughter’s daycare. Adults and children alike show little to no reverence in receiving - they pop, chomp and walk. It really exudes an attitude of irreverance to this 20-something convert to the Church.
Bump for later.
I see it as a greater division between believers and God. The tearing of the veil in the Temple (the one that separated the congregants from the priest) represented the need to have no priest--that believers could go directly to the Lord without a priest. Sames goes for taking of the bread. One more thing to keep believers further from direct contact with the Lord--My greatest reason for breaking with the Catholic Church and embracing Bible-based Christianity.
Go ahead and attack--I am wearing the armor of Christ and it's flame retardant.
I would like to see this change to the Mass implemented a little more forcefully than the MP. But, hey, I won’t be happy until there is a TLM in every parish every Sunday.
The Church should invoke the three-fingered salute and start anew - let’s get back to basics. And with all due respect, a “Homilies for Dummies” wouldn’t be a bad idea either. Bludgeoning the congregation with rambling nonsense is a sure way to lose attendance.
