FLDS Parents Could Face Charges for Abandoning their "Lost Boys"
KCPW News ^ | February 14, 2008

Posted on 02/22/2008 9:11:12 AM PST by Zakeet

They're called the "Lost Boys," the teenagers kicked out of their homes and communities by leaders of the polygamist Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to ensure there's an ample supply of single, young women who will one day become plural wives. Representative Lorie Fowlke (R-Orem), is running a bill to make this abandonment a felony.

"Estimates are that we've had more than 1,000 children - primarily in southern Utah - thrown out of their homes," Fowlke says. "What we were trying to do with this bill is criminalize this behavior and send a message to this community that they can't just throw away their children."

H.B. 23 adds child abandonment to the definition of child abuse, and makes it a felony crime. It also adds an enhancement if a parent or organization benefits from the child's abandonment to further an illegal enterprise, such as polygamy. This is the case with the FLDS church, says Roger Hoole, a lawyer who represents some of the displaced young men and sits on the board for the Utah Association for Justice. He says the church benefits from kicking out young men who would compete for plural wives. This, he says, has devastating consequences.

"There's a huge impact that's coming, like a tsunami, that's going to hit the state of Utah, when these boys get a little older and realize what has happened to them and get angry," Hoole says. "There's a real problem here."

Fowlke's bill gained unanimous support in a Senate committee this morning, and now heads to the full Senate for consideration.

>>Not only does Arnold Murray .... (Shepherd’s Chapel Questions and Answers period<<

Totally off topic - but in Atlanta, Murray comes on channel 2 on cable, the same channel my TV resets to after a power outage.

So, long ago I was in my room with a girl with just a candle for light and we were debating doing something foolish and didn’t realize the power had gone out.

The power came back on suddenly and Murray sounded like he was right in the room thundering about sin and startled us both half to death... I never did see her again after that.

Since you have been listening to him for a long time, is he similar to Mormons?

Discuss the issues all you want but do not make it personal.

For God’s sake, CC, will you please stop distorting and perverting the truth. These FLDS people are evil nut jobs who have nothing whatsoever to do with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and you know it.

Reminds me of when I was in High school and I was dating a Jehovah’s Witness until I brought her to the vacant house that I was living in, I won’t describe what the house was like inside, but it was a little too wild for her.

The first visit was the end of our short lived relationship.

I had not been listening to him for a long time, rather several times over the course of a few days...his programming ran for six hours a nite, so I got to hear a bit of what he had to say...then for whatever reason, the channel that he was running on in my local area, discontinued his programming, so I have not seen him for a long time...

So with what little I actually know for a fact about Mormonism, combined, with what little I know about Murray, I am not in a position to say whether Murray is close to Mormonism or not...if I had to guess, tho, I would say no...he has some views, that are completely different from mainstream teaching....one is that humans were actually created before what he calls ‘the Adam’, and ‘the Eve’,..he claims the other humans of all the other races, were created on the sixth day, but that the Adam and Eve we read about in the Garden of Eden, were created in the 8th day, after God had rested...there are a lot of other things he teaches which are different from mainstream Christianity....

It is late now, and really time for me to leave now..If, however I do remember some of his other teachings, I will post them sometime tomorrow, if time permits...

Until later, everyone be well, and be safe...

You’re welcome but there have been many times when you have spoken my thoughts more clearly than I could have. These things work out.

And BTW, there have been plenty of times I’ve disagreed with you - it keeps things interesting.

And frankly, in the atmosphere of this thread {non-productive comment self-removed by the grace of Free Republic’s preview function}

Well that was a positive contribution. Was that a four letter word followed by a three letter word?

I can also see that Mormons follow both the path to forgiveness through Jesus and the most important commandments as defined by Jesus

So why don't you join the Mormon Church? What is wrong with it?

Sorry. What they are saying is very hurtful to members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. But I should not have called a certain poster another name for a clown. I am sorry. There is nothing funny about this. But I never knew that “bozo” was a bad word. Sorry.

>>So why don’t you join the Mormon Church? What is wrong with it?<<

The main reason is that I don’t feel called by God to join.

I also have doctrinal differences. And whenever I think of Joseph Smith I think about South Park - that would probably get me kicked out any way.

Besides, in my family, with line of preachers on each side, I am already considered to be the child of a mixed marriage - Southern Baptist and Primitive Baptist - there is enough dissension in the family over whether there should be seat cushions in church without bringing seeing stones into it.

From your posting history, I was under the impression that he was very important to you and that you had been following him for at least a year from your July 2006 post.

Oh, I thought this thread was about the FLDS church and a law being proposed to crack down on child abuse which I think is a great idea. The children in this horrible cult are being abused.

It hurt my feelings when I read some of the posts at the beginning equating my Church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, with this awful FLDS “church”. Some people were saying that the FLDS church is composed of the real Mormons. That hurts my feelings.

I love my Church and I love my Savior. I don’t like it when people say my Jesus is not the same as their Jesus. Their Jesus died for them but not for me. They can say anything they want, I guess, on this site, and the religious moderator does not understand why it is so hurtful. Too bad.

Thank you, Pandy, for reminding us to pray. Prayers are being sent, right now, for these boys.

These FLDS people are evil nut jobs who have nothing whatsoever to do with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and you know it.

IIRC didn't Romney's Great Grandparents move to Mexico so that they could continue to live in Polygamy after the Mormon Church banned the practice in the United States.

And IIRC doesn't the Doctrine and Covenants prohibition on polygamy only apply to the practice within the jurisdiction of the United States?

And wasn't the covenant which introduced polygamy to the LDS Church supposed to be an Everlasting Covenant and that anyone who refused to refused to abide in that covenant, was to be damned?

These FLDS are simply practicing what your ancestors practiced in Utah 100 years ago. Section 132 has never been rescinded, and according to the "official declaration" it's prohibition only applies where the government has declared plural marriage to be forbidden.

If the United States were to declare that plural marriage is no longer illegal, would you be willing to enter into the everlasting covenant in Section 132? Would you allow your husband to take on a new virgin wife?

Have you prayed and asked God to reveal the truth of the Book of Mormon to you?

The Mormons say that If you are sincere in your prayer, that God will give you a burning in your bosom and you'll know the truth of the book of Mormon and then you will have a testimony that Mormonism is the one true church on the face of the earth.

Have you tried it?

What's stopping you?
