FLDS Parents Could Face Charges for Abandoning their "Lost Boys"
KCPW News ^
| February 14, 2008
Posted on 02/22/2008 9:11:12 AM PST by Zakeet
They're called the "Lost Boys," the teenagers kicked out of their homes and communities by leaders of the polygamist Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to ensure there's an ample supply of single, young women who will one day become plural wives. Representative Lorie Fowlke (R-Orem), is running a bill to make this abandonment a felony.
"Estimates are that we've had more than 1,000 children - primarily in southern Utah - thrown out of their homes," Fowlke says. "What we were trying to do with this bill is criminalize this behavior and send a message to this community that they can't just throw away their children."
H.B. 23 adds child abandonment to the definition of child abuse, and makes it a felony crime. It also adds an enhancement if a parent or organization benefits from the child's abandonment to further an illegal enterprise, such as polygamy. This is the case with the FLDS church, says Roger Hoole, a lawyer who represents some of the displaced young men and sits on the board for the Utah Association for Justice. He says the church benefits from kicking out young men who would compete for plural wives. This, he says, has devastating consequences.
"There's a huge impact that's coming, like a tsunami, that's going to hit the state of Utah, when these boys get a little older and realize what has happened to them and get angry," Hoole says. "There's a real problem here."
Fowlke's bill gained unanimous support in a Senate committee this morning, and now heads to the full Senate for consideration.

BTW I think this is the longest a Mormon thread has ever gone without being locked or removed. There was one over 3000 posts about a month ago. I'll try to find it.
You you say "pigs" you remind me of "Animal Farm," and the idea of Socialism) which really fits in well in any discussion of Mormonism - - "United Order" and all. It is amazing we "prols" are even allowed to speak.

Huh?
Number 17...
How Mormon's deal with data presented to them by those they call ANTI's:
1. How you interpret it is wrong... 2. You are too ignorant to really understand it because you are not a member.... 3. You're not qualified to judge because you're no LONGER a member... 4. You are just a bigot for bringing the whole ugly truth to light ... 5. Sos yer Mama! 6. Laugh it all off and post some silly image. 7. Jump down the rabbit hole; Alice! 8. Bait & Switch 9. The OTHER 'half' of the truth is what we are avoiding. 10. "I Know It When I See It" 11. Hand waving... 12. YOU play defense for a while. 13. HEE Hee hee... let's get the Calvinists and the Armenians fighting! 14. GREAT FUN! Let's get the Catholics and the Protestants fighting! 15. Huh? Did you say something? 16. If I repeat this enough times some folks will be fooled into thinking it's true. 17. Playing dumb. 18. Refusing to answer because your ATTITUDE offends them. 19. (Let's see if they'll fall for the 'Defend a freak' ploy.) |

You have been around since 2000 and are telling us you have not read our umteen answers until we were blue in the face! Sorry..I haven't.
And...until Romney was running for president, I never really noticed threads on Mormonism.
Wasn't there a big influx of Mormon threads when Romney announced?
To me, it seemed that there was a distinct campaign to paint Mormonism as just another denomination of Christianity.
And...if you have already answered these direct questions so many times, then you should be able to respond very quickly and specifically, now.
It seems that you spend more time responding with non-answers than you would responding with specific answers.
And...if you have answered them before, then why do you use excuses, now, (like you don't cast your pearls before swine, and so forth) to not answer them?
Will you tell me how a non-mormon can obtain salvation and receive the atonement, now?
Can we reason together, now?

The "Caractors" are the only tangible evidence in existence related to Smith's story. No gold plates, no brass plates, no peep stones, no Urim and Thummim... only these "Caractors," not a single one of which is in the purported languages.
Smith's translation of the Caractors. According to Martin Harris (Joseph Smith - History, 1:64), "I went to the city of New York, and presented the characters which had been translated, with the translation thereof, to Professor Charles Anthon, a gentleman celebrated for his literary attainments. Professor Anthon stated that the translation was correct, more so than any he had before seen translated from the Egyptian. I then showed him those which were not yet translated,* and he said they were Egyptian, Chaldaic, Assyriac, and Arabic; and he said they were true characters."
Speak right up now in all truthfulness. Isn't it revealing how Smith started out making a stab at creating believable "caractors" but quckly gave up and produced nothing but squiggles, ending up wih a series of nothing more than crude little scribbles? Yet Professor Anthon supposedly translated them!
*Harris must have had two or three pieces of paper with himone with characters and a translation of them (on the same paper or a separate one) and one with untranslated charactersquite likely the "Caractors." Some Mormon "scholars" have gone out on a limb, sawed it off, and knocked themselves out trying to translate from these true Egyptian, Chaldaic, Assyriac, and Arabic characters a segment that would correspond with a verse from 1 Nephi.
Modern-day experts in Egyptian, Chaldaic, Assyriac, and Arabic. In 1829, any knowledge of these languages possessed by U.S. scholars would have been rudimentary at best. Expertise in them has vastly improved since then. So go ahead, do it. Get any modern expert in these languages to identify which of these "Caractors" are Egyptian, Chaldaic, Assyriac and Arabic. Better still, accept the claim of Mormon apologists that Anthon did indeed so testify and that his appraisal of the Caractors was correct. (Op. cit, pp. 73-75)
Save your money! Samples of Assyriac/Aramaic and Arabic writing:
What say you? Which of Smith's "Caractors" resemble the Assyriac and Arabic ones? No need to pay experts for their analysis. A child could accurately check this out. These writing systems have remained constant for well over 3000 years.
