FLDS Parents Could Face Charges for Abandoning their "Lost Boys"
KCPW News ^ | February 14, 2008

Posted on 02/22/2008 9:11:12 AM PST by Zakeet

They're called the "Lost Boys," the teenagers kicked out of their homes and communities by leaders of the polygamist Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to ensure there's an ample supply of single, young women who will one day become plural wives. Representative Lorie Fowlke (R-Orem), is running a bill to make this abandonment a felony.

"Estimates are that we've had more than 1,000 children - primarily in southern Utah - thrown out of their homes," Fowlke says. "What we were trying to do with this bill is criminalize this behavior and send a message to this community that they can't just throw away their children."

H.B. 23 adds child abandonment to the definition of child abuse, and makes it a felony crime. It also adds an enhancement if a parent or organization benefits from the child's abandonment to further an illegal enterprise, such as polygamy. This is the case with the FLDS church, says Roger Hoole, a lawyer who represents some of the displaced young men and sits on the board for the Utah Association for Justice. He says the church benefits from kicking out young men who would compete for plural wives. This, he says, has devastating consequences.

"There's a huge impact that's coming, like a tsunami, that's going to hit the state of Utah, when these boys get a little older and realize what has happened to them and get angry," Hoole says. "There's a real problem here."

Fowlke's bill gained unanimous support in a Senate committee this morning, and now heads to the full Senate for consideration.

I’m curious: do you know the actual people at BYU or FAIR who feed these posts to you?

Huh?

I guess that you mean you still need help. Find a good shrink. You need one.

Now...that wasn't nice.

Do you have to be reminded, again, that personal attacks are not allowed on this forum?

Silly me...I thought that the Mormons were supposed to be the nice people.

And...You do realize that this personal attack did not in any way defend your church or promote/defend your doctrine. Instead, it further eroded away at its credibility.

RACISM???

ROFLOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep...and not so funny.

Book of Mormon

". . . wherefore, as they were white and exceedingly fair and delightsome, that they might not be enticing unto my people the Lord God did cause a skin of blackness to come upon them (2 Nephi 5:21)."

Book of Moses (Pearl of Great Price)

". . . there was a blackness came upon all the children of Canaan, that they were despised among all people . . . (Moses 7:8)."

"And . . . they were a mixture of all the seed of Adam save it was the seed of Cain, for the seed of Cain were black, and had not place among them (Moses 7:22)."

Book of Abraham (Pearl of Great Price)

". . . from Ham, sprang that race which preserved the curse in the land (Abraham 1:24)."

"Now the first government of Egypt was established by Pharaoh, the eldest son of Egyptus, the daughter of Ham, . . . Noah, his father, who blessed him with the blessings of the earth, . . . but cursed him as pertaining to the Priesthood.

"Now, Pharaoh being of the lineage by which he could not have the right of Priesthood, . . . (Abraham 1:26-27)."

This doctrine led to this:

"There is a reason why one man is born black and with other disadvantages, while another is born white with great advantage. The reason is that we once had an estate before we came here, and were obedient, more or less, to the laws that were given us there. Those who were faithful in all things there received greater blessings here, and those who were not faithful received less.... There were no neutrals in the war in heaven. All took sides either with Christ or with Satan. Every man had his agency there, and men receive rewards here based upon their actions there, just as they will receive rewards hereafter for deeds done in the body. The Negro, evidently, is receiving the reward he merits."

-Joseph Fielding SmithDoctrines of Salvation, Vol.1, pages 66-67

"According to Brigham Young, Joseph Smith classified these people as "The seed of Cain. Young said the "Joseph Smith had declared that the Negroes were not neutral in heaven for all the spirits took sides, but `the posterity of Cain are black because he (Cain) committed murder. He killed Abel and God set a mark upon his posterity."

"You see some classes of the human family that are BLACK, UNCOUTH, UNCOMELY, DISAGREEABLE and LOW in their habits, WILD, and seemingly DEPRIVED OF NEARLY ALL THE BLESSINGS OF THE INTELLIGENCE that is generally bestowed upon mankind. The first man that committed the odious crime of killing one of his brethren will be cursed the longest of any one of the children of Adam. Cain slew his brother. Cain might have been KILLED, and THAT WOULD HAVE PUT A TERMINATION TO THAT LINE OF HUMAN BEINGS. This was not to be, and the Lord put A MARK upon him, which is THE FLAT NOSE AND BLACK SKIN. Trace mankind down to after the flood, and then another curse is pronounced upon the same race -- that they should be the "servants of servants;" and they will be, until that curse is removed; and the Abolitionists cannot help it, nor in the least alter that decree." LDS "Prophet" Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 7, p. 290, 1859, emphasis added

In the 1800's, the average age of a woman getting married was above twenty years old...this statistic clearly refutes what lady lawyer posted.

So...should I assume, by your post, that you approve of Joseph Smith's plural marriage with several teenage girls between the ages of 14 and 19?

What is so nice about your underminding digs tell us?

It is not like I have called you a bozo, an idiot, insane, dull, a swine and etc.

And..."undermining digs" must equal legitimate questions based on history and Mormon doctrine (but you won't answer questions pertaining to doctrine or history).

Many of you Mormons act as if Mormonism is the only faith that comes under scrutiny...It is not.

Christianity is constantly under scrutiny and reasonable responses are offered. We welcome scrutiny...It will only further prove the strength of God's Word.

If you don’t recognize (but I believe that you do and that is why Mormon’s will not answer the direct questions related to polygamy) that Joseph Smith’s polygamous marriages, along with the other “prophets” plural marriages, creates a credibilty issue concerning prophet status and thus the nature of the LDS Church, itself...then you may be in willful denial.

Yes your wedges!

You could, of course, dismantle these so-called wedges by answering direct questions with reasonable, and specific, responses.

How about it...do you want to answer some direct questions, now?

Oh stop your whinning after you would received it, you would just act like one of the negative characters in a aesop fable!

Oh the irony...this from the one who has been so prone to hit the abuse button (and over so much less).

In a large part, these threads would be a much more productive exchange, if the Mormon side would answer direct questions with reasonable and specific answers.

Do you want to make the attempt?

C'mon...lets reason together.

Half the fun of these threads is posting some well documented fact about the LDS Church, then watching them squeal while they call us pigs.

And some seem to squeal so much louder than some of the others...do they all squeal?

Are there any that answer direct questions with specific answers?
