Childish behavior |

They're called the "Lost Boys," the teenagers kicked out of their homes and communities by leaders of the polygamist Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to ensure there's an ample supply of single, young women who will one day become plural wives. Representative Lorie Fowlke (R-Orem), is running a bill to make this abandonment a felony.
"Estimates are that we've had more than 1,000 children - primarily in southern Utah - thrown out of their homes," Fowlke says. "What we were trying to do with this bill is criminalize this behavior and send a message to this community that they can't just throw away their children."
H.B. 23 adds child abandonment to the definition of child abuse, and makes it a felony crime. It also adds an enhancement if a parent or organization benefits from the child's abandonment to further an illegal enterprise, such as polygamy. This is the case with the FLDS church, says Roger Hoole, a lawyer who represents some of the displaced young men and sits on the board for the Utah Association for Justice. He says the church benefits from kicking out young men who would compete for plural wives. This, he says, has devastating consequences.
"There's a huge impact that's coming, like a tsunami, that's going to hit the state of Utah, when these boys get a little older and realize what has happened to them and get angry," Hoole says. "There's a real problem here."
Fowlke's bill gained unanimous support in a Senate committee this morning, and now heads to the full Senate for consideration.
"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool; than to type away and remove all doubt."
(Honest Abe PROBABLY would say THIS if he were alive today.)
In short, the dogmas of orthodoxy have become strawmen for ALL Mormons.
DUH!
Look at the TITLE!
Sorry 7, but HISTORY records facts, and THEY 'besmirch' your Glorious Founder (PBUH) who has left plenty of Followers who CAN try to cover up (or ignore) the data; but are doing a REAL poor job of it!
Pretty fruit; rotten root.
The Articles of Faith outline 13 basic points of belief of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The Prophet Joseph Smith first wrote them in a letter to John Wentworth, a newspaper editor, in response to Mr. Wentworth's request to know what members of the Church believed.
They were subsequently published in Church periodicals.
They are now regarded as scripture and included in the Pearl of Great Price.

Unlike...
They succeeded in killing Joseph, but he had finished his work.He was a servant of God, and gave us the Book of Mormon. He said the Bible was right in the main, but, through the translators and others, many precious portions were suppressed, and several other portions were wrongly translated; and now his testimony is in force, for he has sealed it with his blood. As I have frequently told them, no man in this dispensation will enter the courts of heaven, without the approbation of the Prophet Joseph Smith, Jun.Who has made this so?Have I?Have this people?Have the world? No; but the Lord Jehovah has decreed it.If I ever pass into the heavenly courts, it will be by the consent of the Prophet Joseph. If you ever pass through the gates into the Holy City, you will do so upon his certificate that you are worthy to pass. Can you pass without his inspection? No; neither can any person in this dispensation, which is the dispensation of the fulness of times. In this generation, and in all the generations that are to come, everyone will have to undergo the scrutiny of this Prophet. They say that they killed Joseph, and they will yet come with their hats under their arms and bend to him; but what good will it do them, unless they repent? They can come in a certain way and find favor, but will they?
"If I ever pass into heavenly courts, it will be by the consent of Prophet Joseph"

You keep thinking this is a creed but it is not, Elsie can’t help himself.
A story passed down of Brigham Young on one of his visits to Southern Utah. He met a young boy walking down the street, stopped and talked with him for a few minutes. Then he said, “You are a nice little boy. Who is your father?”
The boy replied, “Brigham Young!”
~”Ignoring the context and other thigs offered in the post you lifted from is getting to be a rather telling methodology, Mormon.”~
You’re telling me.
Truth is, MHG, I’m trying out a new tactic: application of the Golden Rule. If the anti-Mormon can take my faith’s doctrine out of context and misrepresent our explanations of it, then I can do the same thing to them.
For example, when I’m told that I worship a different Jesus than that of the Bible by reason of that old brother-of-Lucifer canard, then I feel perfectly justified in returning the favor and accusing the person of worshiping a different Jesus than that of the Bible by reason of the uncaring, unmerciful, unjust, and unloving attributes of that bastardized from of Jesus that is preached by much of orthodox Christianity.
Sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. If you’re to be the decrier of ignoring context, I suggest you tend to your own house first.
~”Is that your last word?”~
Hardly. But it might be a good place to pause.
I, for one am happy to see even-handed treatment by the moderator on these threads, and encourage those on both sides of the debate to keep in mind the fact that "making it personal" leads to the threads being locked and the loss to many lurkers of the valuable information that comes from these discussions when threads go inactive and are moved into limbo.
Many FReepers on both sides spend time in research and preparation of these posts, and locked or pulled threads do not result in good use of their research time. I believe it is valuable to us all to see that the threads are not locked, as new information becomes available at times that would fit into one or more of these specific threads.
I, personally have posts deleted on occasion, and it makes me try harder to keep the tone of MY posts impersonal. I don't always succeed. I HAVE found it helpful to preview my post with the specific intent of whether it can be considered "making it personal" and making changes in tone before posting.
The Religion Moderator has valuable guidelines HERE and I frequently visit the page just to refresh my understanding of the Religion forum rules.
This is an example of RMs guidelines that I feel is specific to many threads I visit: There will be people on the forum who are anti- your confession whether anti-Christian, anti-Calvinist, anti-Catholic, anti-Protestant, anti-Mormon, anti-Atheist, anti-Scientologist and so on. As long as they are arguing for their position on an Open thread and are not using hate mongering material such as the false oath for Knights of Columbus or Jack Chick cartoons and are otherwise abiding by the guidelines, their challenges will be tolerated.
Thanks, moderator for your efforts and diligence.
ROFLOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You should have taken your own advice long ago. You have removed all doubt.
I don't think I know what you think...I know what you think because you posted what you think, in post #89, relative to polygamous marriage involving teenage wives (leaving no doubt what you actually think). Here is what you posted Old Mountain man:
"If you are equating plural marriage with child abuse, I would recommend that you find a good therapist. Any person that cannot see the difference is either insane or an idiot." (Old Mountain man, post #89 concerning plural marriages with teenage girls, which was in response to post #88 concerning plural marriage with teenage girls)
And...I see that you still refuse to actually answer the simple and direct questions related to polygamous marriage being abusive to teenage girls and to adult women.
Your lame attempts to deflect the direct questions makes your support of polygamy that much more obvious. The more ridiculous your deflection (like the last one in this post)...the more obvious it becomes.
So...in that light, thank you for answering the questions and affirming that you do not consider polygamous marriage, with teenage girls, to constitute child abuse; And that... You do not consider polygamous marriage with adult women to be abusive; And that...you do not think that Joseph Smith committed child abuse in his polygamous marriage involving teenage girls.
(Would you have destroyed the Expositor's printing press, as well?)
Tant...you are a hoot.
Accusing others of that which you are a silver tongued master.........
Frankly I admire it, in a weird sort of way.
Carry on.....: )

Sorry Sweetie; but this is the very definition of a CREED.
HMmmm...
Just which side would benefit from THIS???
And yet; when some folks have a chance to press the mute button; they get the ^VOLUME one instead!
