Considering there was only essentially one group of churches at the time, why would I doubt him? The fact that the Church slid into heresy happened well after Augustine.

Hmmmm...an interesting question. We're all born at the precise time God sees fit and that certainly wasn't my time. Please keep in mind that I attend a church that I probably disagree with a number of views. I go to church to worship; I get my doctrine and teachings from other sources.
