CHRISTIANS SAVAGED AT CARNEGIE HALL
Catholic League ^ | Tuesday January 22, 2008 | staff

Posted on 01/22/2008 12:08:44 PM PST by kellynla

One week from today, “Jerry Springer—The Opera” will open a two-day run at Carnegie Hall. Commenting on this is Catholic League president Bill Donohue:

“Never before in its illustrious history has Carnegie Hall been home to Christian bashing, but that is all about to change on January 29 and 30. Incredibly, it is allowing a patently obscene and viciously anti-Christian musical to be performed on its stage. Thus has it got into bed with the bigots, making a mockery of art in the process. This isn’t art—it’s license.

“Is it art when a world religion is trashed on stage in a totally obscene way? This is what the officers of Carnegie Hall seem to be saying, which is why they are allowing ‘Jerry Springer—The Opera’ to soil its stage next week. And do they agree with Max von Essen, the actor who plays a transsexual in the show? Here is what he told the Internet-site BroadwayWorld: ‘I’m a New Yorker. I’m liberal and open-minded. Things don’t really shock me. But I was reading the second-act today and thinking that if you’re religious, you could be. But you shouldn’t.’ (Italics in the original.)

“How telling. Max has a mind that is so open that it allows him not to be shocked at cultural assaults on someone else’s religion, even in instances when he is doing the trashing. When some are offended, he is just liberal enough to tell them they shouldn’t be. Is this the road Carnegie Hall wants to travel?

“Those who think that we are overreacting should read what ‘Jerry Springer—The Opera’ is all about. Click here to find out.”

Jerry Springer—The Opera
What follows is a description of the DVD filming of the musical “Jerry Springer—The Opera.” Please be advised that adult language is used. Bolded content is our emphasis.

The studio audience for a taping of the Jerry Springer show sing about what they want to see on the show. Some hope for bare breasts, some for lesbians or bisexual dwarfs, some for a “chick with a dick.”
The character of the “Warm-Up Man” gets the crowd excited before Jerry Springer comes out (played by an actor). He sings to the crowd that Jerry Springer is “bigger than Dave Letterman, bigger than Bob Hope. And give or take a few million, bigger than the fucking pope.”

A cast of losers come out and sing about their problems. These are all vulgar and graphic. For instance, there is a “chick with a dick,” and a guy who wants to be his girlfriend’s “baby.” By this he means that he wants to wear a diaper and have her treat him like an infant, and this will get him aroused.

The chorus sings that people all have different interests, explaining the sexual deviants on the show. One line is, “For some morning Mass, for others hairy ass.”

Around chapter 9 of the DVD, the show goes to commercials. One of the commercials is a mock advertisement for a Christian charity. The motto is, “Give to Jesus, or die a horrible death.” Another commercial is for guns, mocking Americans for a gun culture.

More deviants are brought out. In one scene (chapter 11) a stripper’s mother, wearing a large crucifix, confronts her daughter. The mother informs her daughter that she wishes the daughter had died at birth.

In chapter 12, Klansmen dance around in front of a burning cross. A man in a diaper tries to shoot a Klansman, but misses and hits Jerry instead.

Jerry learns he has gone to Hell. The “Warm-Up Man” from his show is actually Satan. The viewers see pictures of naked men descending into Hell.

Satan wants Jerry to host a conflict resolution show for Heaven and Hell. Satan is angry with God for casting him out of Heaven, and hopes to be an angel again and get an apology from Jesus. Satan has given Jerry cue cards to read for the show. Jerry reluctantly agrees to be the host.

There is a set, and a sign reading, “Jerry Springer Show—in Hell.” A disclaimer is shown that reads in part, “It may not be suitable for viewers without a strong grasp of Judeo-Christian mythology.”

At chapter 16 of the DVD, Jerry reads one of Satan’s cue cards to introduce the next guest. Jerry hesitatingly reads that the guest is, “The hypocrite son of the fascist tyrant on high, Jesus of Nazareth.”

Jesus comes out. He is the same actor who played the man interested in dressing up as a baby. Jesus is fat, effeminate, and wearing a diaper. Jesus tells Satan to sit down on his ass.

Chapter 17 starts, and Satan is singing about Jesus. He sings, “So he turned the water into wine, oooh! So he walked across the freaking seas, oooh! So you got yourself crucified. Here’s a little biscuit from me.” Satan holds up an off-white cookie that resembles the Eucharist.

Jesus then grabs the biscuit from Satan and holds it above his head before throwing it down as he sings: “I am Jesus, son of man, son of Mary, son of God. So do not, do not, do not fuck with me. I do not want your biscuit. I want your love and your respect, for I am love and I love all mankind.”

The chorus then sings, “Jesus is gay, Jesus is gay.”

Jesus yells at the choir to stop, but then admits, “Actually, I am a bit gay.”

Jerry reads aloud one of the cards. He reads, “You call yourself Jesus, but you are not worthy of the name.” Then Jerry looks up from the card and asks, “Who wrote this shit?”

At this point, Adam and Eve come out as the next guests. Adam is singing to Eve, “put your fucking clothes on, you stupid bitch.” Eve responds, “Talk to the ass!”

In chapter 18, Adam, Eve and Jesus are talking. Jerry is trying to resolve the conflict between them all. Eve sings to Jesus that she shouldn’t have been cast out of the garden for one simple mistake. Jesus responds that Eve had her chance, and she blew it.

Eve reaches under Jesus’ diaper and fondles his genitals. Jesus sings that he was crucified and Eve didn’t even care. Eve and Jesus continue arguing and eventually come to physical blows.

Jerry tells Jesus he has to apologize for hitting Eve, but Jesus will not. Satan then sings that Jesus should get over the crucifixion, “and give us all a fucking break.”

When Jerry suggests to Satan that it may be impossible for him to get Jesus to apologize for casting Satan out of heaven, Satan and the choir sing out a warning, indicating that if Jerry doesn’t succeed, he will be “fucked up the ass with barbed wire.”

Jerry announces that it is time to bring in the next guest, “the teenage mother of Jesus, Mary.”

The choir sings, “Raped by an angel, raped by an angel, raped by an angel, raped by God!”

The Blessed Mother enters. She is angry and pointing at Jesus. She sings a song to him asking things like “Where were you when I was getting old? Where were you when the children cried?”

Satan sings back, “Jesus wasn’t there. He didn’t care.”

Jerry tells Satan that there is no way of resolving all these conflicts short of a miracle. At this point, God descends onto the stage. He is a fat man in a white suit.

God sings that it isn’t easy being God, as everyone makes bad choices and then turns around and blames God for their problems. He invites Jerry up to Heaven to “sit in Heaven beside me, hold my hand and guide me.”

Jerry gratefully accepts, but Satan and God then get into a fight over him. Jerry is put in a cage and is going to descend into a pit of fire. He then gives a speech to convince everyone to keep him away from Hell. He steals lines from Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech, and from Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address. He ends with his own words: You’re never going to agree on everything. And what’s so bad about that? Satan, you’re never going to get your apologies... Jesus, grow up for Christ’s sake and put some fucking clothes on. Haven’t you people heard of yin and yang? Love and hate? Attraction and repulsion? It’s the human condition we’re talking about here. Energy is pure delight. Nothing is wrong and nothing is right. And everything that lives is holy. And in conclusion, fuck you. Fuck you all.

All the action on the stage stops, and images of angels are projected onto the stage. The angels have the curves and breasts of females, along with male genitalia. The chorus starts to sing Jerry’s words: “Energy is pure delight. Nothing is wrong and nothing is right.”

Everyone is pleased with what Jerry said, and he is free to go. One of the perverts from the show, Baby Jane (she also got her sexual kicks from acting like a baby) lets him out of the cage. Jerry tells her that he wants to stay in Hell because he likes it there.

Baby Jane sings “Jerry eleison” repeatedly and Jerry finds himself back on Earth, dying from the gunshot wound. The crowd watching him die asks if he has any final thoughts.

In chapter 22, Jerry pontificates, “I’ve learned that there are no absolutes of good and evil. We all live in a glorious state of flux... For better or for worse, history defines us by what we do and what we choose not to do. Hopefully, what will survive is love. So until next time, take care of yourselves.”

Jerry then dies, and the chorus sings a closing song with the frequently repeated line, “3 nipple closet fucker, what the fuck.” The chorus then comes out all dressed as Jerry, singing about how it’s not easy to be Jerry Springer.

End of musical.

Do you suppose Donohue gets paid to pimp these things...? or does he just advertise this junk for free?

As with the the Jerry Springer show itself, I just don’t understand why anyone would want to degrade themselves by looking at stuff like this. Why would one purposely subject oneself to the trash that is abroad in the culture rather than focus on things that are decent, clean, honest, upright and of good report?

The only response your remark warrants is my tagline.

I'd stay quiet about it, at least until the shows are past. Complaining about it will just give the thing more publicity.

Jerry Springer offensive to Christians. Here’s a bulletin for those who have been asleep for the last 20 years.

The only way this piece of garbage won’t crash and burn is if the Christian community gives it a ton of free publicity by protesting it. I’m sure that’s what the producers are counting on. Best to ignore this and let it die.

“I’d stay quiet about it?”

And look how successful that was with the ovens in Germany.

Lefties only know what affects their pocketbooks and if Carnegie Hall is inundated with emails & telephone calls from folks voicing their outrage; maybe just maybe, they will wake up and smell the coffee.

“We don’t want to see this trash!”

Anti-Christianity, the last "safe" bigotry.

Sadly you're not alone:

Brooklyn Assault Forces Community To Question Police Protection

. . .

Balkany says Friday night, five black teens came up to him in front of his friends home in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn, a neighborhood with a history of tension between the black and Hasidic Jewish communities.

. . .

Assemblyman Dov Hikind is accusing the department of misclassifying hate crimes that have taken place in his Brooklyn community.

“I'm talking about situations where there is an interest to not classify incidents as anti-Semitism, even though it is crystal clear to anyone who’s thinking and listening to the facts that this is anti-Semitic,” said Hikind.

. . .

Meanwhile the missiles fall on Sderot and not even the Israelis seem to care.

It's bad.

What the Catholic League is hoping for is that people will contact Carnegie Hall and voice their outrage!

No “free publicity” there.

“Best to ignore this and let it die.”

Anti-Christianity & anti-Catholicism bigotry is far from dying!

"Anti-Christianity & anti-Catholicism bigotry is far from dying!"

Exactly my point. So protesting this garbage will accomplish nothing but give it free publicity and sell extra tickets. And that's just what Springer is hoping ignorant Christians will do. Jesus told us the world would hate us. Thus, I expect this stuff and I'm certainly not surprised by it. But I'm not going to play into their hands.

I was thinking about their pocketbooks. Yelling and demonstrations just give the newsfolks, who are on the wrong side here anyway, a greater chance to promote the show. How many people would have know about the art exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum some years back which supposedly depicted Mary were it not for all the complaining?

Your analogy to the Holocaust is truly sad.

The only exposure I’ve had to this particular vile trash has been your post.

Note too, that the people who are the target audience to go see this will not be discouraged from doing so by Bill Donohue. If anything, it gives them another selling point to get their friends to go. They ~like~ things that upset religious people.
