Don Gabriele Amorth is the busiest exorcist in Europe. His job is to keep the Roman Pontiff free of demons. This is because, says the priest, the devil is abroad in the Vatican. SPIEGEL Author Alexander Smoltczyk has visited the priest - and to test out any demons.
Rome - Everything goes wrong today. First, the Roman taxi drivers strike without any warning. Even the address specified cannot be found on the map plan of the city. Then the photographer calls and says that his camera had not charged. He must dismantle and repair it. All seems jinxed. "You are an hour late," is the first sentence of Father Gabriele Amorth. He smiles.
Don Gabriele is the Chief Exorcist of the Diocese of Rome and hence the caster out of devils responsible to the Bishop of Rome, Pope Benedict XVI. The 82-year-old priest is in a cassock with 33 buttons. He is almost bald, the double chin hangs down, a little like a Basset. For Father Amorth, the devil is not a metaphor but daily practice, office hours being from 9 to 16.30. "I am the only Exorcist, seven days a week, from morning until the afternoon, including Christmas Eve and Easter. I have in 21 years performed more than 70,000 exorcisms. Even when I was younger, I managed an average of fifteen, sixteen exorcisms a day. Now, I have slowed down a little."

“I have in 21 years performed more than 70,000 exorcisms.”
Wow, and he hasn’t even met Hillary Clinton yet.
:)
Hilary would be a test case for this priest. :)
“This is because, says the priest, the devil is abroad in the Vatican.”
Great holiness always attracts great and powerful demons; the greater the holiness, the more powerful and dangerous the demons. This is readily apparent to those whom the Evil One has not succeeded in convincing he doesn’t exist.
Zing!
And, judging by the headline, BADLY translated. The fact that Satan's gremlins are causing mischief does NOT translate into "Satanic sects in the Vatican" (though I suspect that, these days, many suspect that the Jesuits qualify).
Pity the poor fools who pay good money: millions and millions (Tom Cruise, John Travolta, Gretta Van Sustern) to be pronounced 'clear'. The only way they can truly be 'clear' is to pray for forgiveness, repent and do penance of their sins.
Demons can be expelled and deleted in the name of Christ - not in the name of Elron Hubbard.
Agreed, but I always thought that the person has to want his freedom.
I really did not see how the Nativity movie conflicted with my Catholic values and beliefs and I have read what more conservative Catholic writers had to say on it.
This is because, says the priest, the devil is abroad in the Vatican. Lucifer is a man's name I would think.
” This is because, says the priest, the devil is abroad in the Vatican. Lucifer is a man’s name I would think.”
Nope. Its the frustration level that drives her to extremes.
Well, if they had more broads maybe they would let the little kids alone.
The guy in the tombs didn’t want his freedom, and Jesus cleaned that boy out!
Neither did the kid that was continually being thrown into the fire.
The Bible instructs us to cast demons out. It doesn’t give us requirements as far as I know- just to do it.
Newsrooms, congressional offices, and institutions of higher education could all use an in-house exorcist.
All this is written in various places - some in the bible, some in writings of the great exorcists.
Families are haunted for generations by the same spirits. The latest pope has written about the loss of understanding and loss of acknowledgement of the 'spiritual world'. B16 has hit the nail on the head. "Modern' secularists can't grasp anything they can't hear, see, smell or touch. Nevermind that dogs can see in the infra-red, raptors can see in the ultra-violet and any outdoor animal has a superior sense of smell to indoor human noses.
The world of the spirit is largely ignored by all since they dont see any of its direct influence. Thank the lord there are still those who know evil when they see it and know what to do about it...
Mat 12:43 "Now when the unclean spirit goes out of a man, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, and does not find it.
Mat 12:44 "Then it says, 'I will return to my house from which I came'; and when it comes, it finds it unoccupied, swept, and put in order.
Mat 12:45 "Then it goes and takes along with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there; and the last state of that man becomes worse than the first. That is the way it will also be with this evil generation."
The question to ponder is why is the house empty? What makes it so attractive to demons?
I would say that's a correct assessment. Those who have their houses filled by Christ, by his holy spirit, won't have to depend on exorcists to rid them of demons. There's no room for them.
