But I hear ya regarding the rest of it.
And never should we put any man on a pedestal and think he couldn’t grow into a monster of apostasy... because that is exactly what will happen when he gets too many ego strokers around him.

Actually my pastor regularly gets up there and tells his congregation to come to him and correct him if he says or does something stupid. In the old days my denomination's elders would throw things at the pastor if he spoke error.
Now adays the elders in some of our churches won't shake he pastors hand after worship if he missed the mark.

You didnt look hard enough.Something this VITAL should be available withOUT having to 'look hard'.
EVERY doctrine 'needed' for salvation is found with the pages of the Bible, so just WHY should someone look elsewhere?

It was right in plan sight. If you would have read those things you would have seen a wonderful biblical history of temples. But, just like so many others, your purpose is not to find out what people believe but to try and find things so you can proove them “wrong”.
You ask why someone should look elsewhere. Because the common people in the time of Christ and after never even had the scriptures let alone the complete Bible. Which was more important to them, the scripturs or the Apostle Paul? The Lord has given additional instruction today. Read with the right attitude and you will see! www.lds.org

Which was more important to them, the scripturs or the Apostle Paul?Well...
Acts 17:11
Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.
Because the common people in the time of Christ and after never even had the scriptures...
Who told you THIS??
Mark 12:26-27
26. Now about the dead rising--have you not read in the book of Moses, in the account of the bush, how God said to him, `I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob' ?
27. He is not the God of the dead, but of the living. You are badly mistaken!"
Luke 5:14
Then Jesus ordered him, "Don't tell anyone, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded for your cleansing, as a testimony to them."
Luke 16:19-31
19. "There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day.
20. At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores
21. and longing to eat what fell from the rich man's table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores.
22. "The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham's side. The rich man also died and was buried.
23. In hell, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side.
24. So he called to him, `Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.'
25. "But Abraham replied, `Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony.
26. And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.'
27. "He answered, `Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my father's house,
28. for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.'
29. "Abraham replied, `They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.'
30. "`No, father Abraham,' he said, `but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.'
31. "He said to him, `If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.'"
Luke 24:25-27
25. He said to them, "How foolish you are, and how slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken!
26. Did not the Christ have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?"
27. And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.
Luke 24:44-45
44. He said to them, "This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms."
45. Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures.
John 1:45
Philip found Nathanael and told him, "We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote--Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph."
John 5:39-47
39. You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me,
40. yet you refuse to come to me to have life.
41. "I do not accept praise from men,
42. but I know you. I know that you do not have the love of God in your hearts.
43. I have come in my Father's name, and you do not accept me; but if someone else comes in his own name, you will accept him.
44. How can you believe if you accept praise from one another, yet make no effort to obtain the praise that comes from the only God ?
45. "But do not think I will accuse you before the Father. Your accuser is Moses, on whom your hopes are set.
46. If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me.
47. But since you do not believe what he wrote, how are you going to believe what I say?"
NIV Luke 24:45
Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures.

I don’t read the NIV but love the King James. Sorry. But I agree with what you wrote!!! You make my point better than I ever could have!!! They were reading the old testament which they had. And when more was written later it was added to what we now call the Bible.
The people in the new testament you are quoting did not have the new testament. They had Jesus, the apostles and prophets. Johns wonderful writings were completed later. So when the Lord did more prophets and apostles wrote more.
I say having Jesus with them or Paul or John the Beloved with them was more important than having the old scriptures (although that was very important) with them. Having said that I say that the Lord still does things today and that is where the Book of Mormon and other scriptures come in!
Thanks so much for making that more clear!!!

People love, especially here, to bash everything he says. That's because he says nothing of import. Kind of like a moderate. It's very hard to be impressed by a moderate.

I think I missed your point...?
Why it is unmistakable, my dear FReeper. Joel is a very affirming and inoffensive soul. Of course he would say, "Bless you." with just a sneeze.

Yes, far be it from me to say that Pastor Osteen is any less accepting and accomodating than Jesus Christ, Himself -- and I might even say he is likely a bit more so. ;-`

That is a true sign of maturity in Christ. It's one sign - but there are plenty of others such as:
<< Hebrews 5:14 >> But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil.

No one has ever accused Osteen of being much of a theologian.

How dare you say I hate Mormons. Some of my family are practicing Mormons. I’m not sure how you thought my statement was hateful. I was merely stating that there are so many differences between the doctrine of Christianity and Mormonism that make a distinct difference in our beliefs. It is interesting you didn’t debate or disagree with the differences I did speak of, you only did what most poor debaters do and start to begin to make false accusations against someone pointing out the truths.
This is a tactic that many politicians do when they can’t truly state what it is they stand for or believe in. Is that your case?

I love my Church that it does not turn a blind eye to sin. Saundra, your oft-posted "I love my CHURCH" mantra is so glaringly NOT "I love my SAVIOR" or "I LOVE MY GOD"!
It is also, in my opinion very MORMON and indicative!
