So do I have this right? You pray to Mary because you think she 1)hears your prayers, 2)better understands your pain, and 3)can intercede in heaven with God on your behalf.

That contradicts Scripture.

Only Jesus is mentioned in Scripture as our Mediator.

1Timothy 2:5 For [there is] one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

It is Jesus who has bourn our pain and carried our sorrow.

Isaiah 53:4,5 ¶ Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

But he [was] wounded for our transgressions, [he was] bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace [was] upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

It is Jesus who has established a new covenant as our high priest.

Hebrews 8:1,2,6 ¶ Now of the things which we have spoken [this is] the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens;

A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.

But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.

She is one of many of my Bible Heroes/Role Models

Just as I have many human role models down here on earth.

I am simplistic in mind but what is in my heart is complex.

Sorry that is the best analogy I can give.

That contradicts Scripture.

Only Jesus is mentioned in Scripture as our Mediator.

Sola Scriptura has not, and can not be proven, so any reasoning predicated on it is fallacious.

Only Jesus is mentioned in Scripture as our Mediator.

1Timothy 2:5 For [there is] one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

Jesus is the only mediator in the pre-eminent cause of salvation. And He is still mediating through the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, where there is but one line of prayer for the intercession "of Mary the Mother of God, the Apostles, the angels, and all the saints who have done [God's] will throughout the ages."

If you think "mediating" refers to things like helping you find a new job, you're mistaken. The angels and saints can intercede with God, who will help you find that job, but it has nothing to do, per se, with the "mediation" that Paul speaks of. The mediation that Paul speaks of is the eternal payment of the eternal punishment of sin that caused eternal separation between God and humankind. The intercession of the saints in no way precludes the exlusive mediation of Christ's blood sacrifice in atoning for the sin of Adam. By subscribing to an erroneous interpretation of Paul's "mediator", Protestantism can conveniently sweep aside Catholic belief in the communion of the saints. Once the meaning of "mediator" is pointed out, that becomes... well... a little harder to do.
