GREELEY A Catholic priest accused of jogging naked before dawn will ask a jury to decide his guilt on a misdemeanor charge of indecent exposure.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Rev. Robert Whipkeys attorney, Matt Giacomini, entered a not guilty plea and requested a jury trial for his client. If he is convicted, Whipkey might have to register as a sex offender.
Whipkey, who was wearing a suit with an open-collared shirt, did not speak during the hearing. He and his attorneys, Giacomini and Doug Tisdale, would not comment as they left the courtroom or the courthouse.
The trial is scheduled for March 25 and 26, but Whipkey is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 31 for a motions hearing and on March 7 for a pretrial conference.
An off-duty Frederick Police officer who had just arrived home after work saw Whipkey walking nude on Fifth Street at about 4:30 a.m. June 22, police said. Whipkey was walking home after jogging at Frederick High School, according to police.
The priest told police he was jogging nude because wearing clothes makes him sweat profusely. Prosecutor Kent Leier told Weld County Judge Michele Meyer that his office had not yet received Whipkeys personnel records from the archdiocese, which is under a court order to produce those records by the end of business today.
The day is not over, Tisdale said before he criticized the prosecutor for raising the issue during his clients arraignment.
In August, the archdiocese said it investigated Whipkey for inappropriate personal behavior eight years ago, while he was assigned to a parish in Sterling. Charges in that matter were not filed, according to the archdiocese.
Naked jogging=hung jewelry
No pictures please.
Of course, fat guys jogging in a speedo isn't much of an improvement, but it might have kept this one out of jail.
Those with malice in their hearts towards Christ's Church wound him just as surely as those whose actions cause scandal within it.
The Bishop should have already fired this guy.
Colo. priest charged for jogging naked
Naked truth: Priest jogs in birthday suit
Jogging in (less than) brief
Priest faced prior nudity allegations
No pictures please. >>
please spare us. I just had dinner..
I will bet this guy wanted out of the priesthood and made sure by doing something marginally illegal as in this disorderly persons act.
If he were in North Carolina, he could get a prayer for judgment and avoid any penalties.
"Eight-year-olds, dude."
The priest told police he was jogging nude because wearing clothes makes him sweat profusely.
Well, that's one reason.
In August, the archdiocese said it investigated Whipkey for inappropriate personal behavior eight years ago, while he was assigned to a parish in Sterling.
All these guys seem to have questionable pasts which are tolerated, over-looked, ignored, until finally, children's lives are destroyed.
These aren't shepherds. They're wolves in no clothing.
And per my "Big Lebowski" reference, I encourage everyone to see the Coen Brothers' splendid new movie, "True Grit." It's the most Christian film out of Hollywood in a very long time. Note the very early images of two crosses on a porch and through a doorway, and the voice-over reference to "God's free grace."
Those guys are the most Calvinist Jews I've ever come across. 8~)
I’ve seen the size of more running shorts.
There’s not enough material there to make ANYONE sweat profusely.
What the ????
You want to translate that?
Yeah, the guy is just a victim, dontchaknow?
Everybody is picking on him because he's a Catholic priest. Never mind that he's an old, fat exhibitionist. Nobody would ever pick on him for that, now would they?
From my experiences I've found that Jews understand the sovereignty of God better than most. And why wouldn't they?
Good film!
Okay, here it is the 3rd of Jan. and you have already captured the "Best one-liner of the year" award! No wonder your contract keeps getting renewed.
My summary of the story from 2008:
Consider that Whipkey was jogging around a public high school. Consider also, which hasn't been reported in the press, is that there's a public elementary school and a public middle school to the south of the parish, both of which border the high school property. Unless Whipkey stayed on the public streets the entire time, he would have passed through the grounds of at least one public school (if not all three) during his naked jogging sessions at the high school's track. One account mentions that Whipkey went into an alley behind the rectory, which exits onto one of the school properties. Considering that Whipkey has a prior history of public nudity, if I were Chaput I'd ditch him immediately. But the archdiocese delayed sending documents to the court, Whipkey's lawyers had him plead innocent after Whipkey confessed to the cops, and Chaput sent him off for "some treatment" (which his superiors have done once before) which delayed the trial. Said behaviors on Whipkey's behalf trouble me more than anything....the bishops have rejected scriptural authority in favor of (to modify your term) modern pshrinkology. They didn't define the issue (and it's treatment) as a sin problem to be repented of. They treated it as behavior modification.

It took the jury less than three hours to decide what to do with [Whipkey]. It's been almost exactly one year since his admission "I know what I did was wrong", and a decade since his boys' camp antics, and his archdiocese still hasn't decided what to do. There's a lesson in there somewhere.

It’s fascinating to watch RCs defend the indefensible. Once again it proves they will follow any corruption anywhere if it is spoken by someone in a dress and expensive shoes.
