I thought the bishops said it was hunky dory?
God bless the good bishop of La Crosse!
Contrast that with the following glowing review of the film by a nun, from this week’s Los Angeles Archdiocesan newspaper. That’s right, Cardinal Mahony’s archdiocese. Why am I not surprised?
EXCERPT:
“The Golden Compass” film, however, demonstrates the values and virtues heroism, self-sacrifice and courage that transcend the challenges the characters face. If future films are made, we can hope that they will be consistent with this first film.
Moreover, “The Golden Compass” film challenges believing adults to articulate their faith and values and to brush up on Church history, theology and literature and literary forms. It is a difficult assignment, but an excellent way to engage in our culture. To “just say no” is not a valid option in today’s media world.

I assumed from the beginning that they would fail to alert the faithful to this vicious tissue of anti-Christian propaganda, but I never thought they would give a more positive review of the film than the secular press did.
When the USCCB is lauding a movie that the decidedly non-Catholic Joe Morgenstern thinks is "muddled" and "disappointing" we have the smoke of Satan in the chapel that His Holiness Paul VI warned of.
Voices......voices......I must be hearing voices!!
A bishop said that?
An American Catholic bishop? Somebody fan me! I feel delirious.
I foresee an extremely bright future for this bishop in La Crosse then Fargo, ND and finally Butte, Montana.
It is wonderful to see a Bishop with such love and care for his flock. We should not forget those who don’t seem as wise and good and keep them in our prayers that they would like St. Paul have a revelation of the Risen Jesus as Our Lord.
Blessings
