**disobedience, argumentativeness, self-gratification, self-justification and pernicious high opinion of oneself..**
What a great list for the opposite of obedience.
Makes me step back, take a deep breath, and look at today’s society.
Blessings to you.
“Makes me step back, take a deep breath, and look at todays society.”
One of the truly sublime and miraculous things about the Fathers is their timelessness. +Gregory of Sinai was 13th/14th century. Human sinfulness doesn’t change. What keeps us focused on the self and not on God hasn’t changed, what we do to separate ourselves from God Who never separates Himself from us remains the same. The Faith of course is timeless which is why we as the laity must take special care to preserve what has been handed down to us. Your posting of the magnificent devotional of Thomas a Kempis contributes to the preservation and inculcation of part of the best the Western Church has to offer to humanity, as much today as when it was written in a similar “dark age”.
