So you basically cherry picked 2 or so newsletters of some unnamed sect from one mission located in Santa Barbara and just extrapolated from there.
BTW, here's a nicer picture of Jesus - one I quite like - so can we drop the issue with the painting already?

They are very much tolerated by the local diocease. Ah yes, the anti-catholic double-bind, famed in legend and song. When our antagonists tire of castigating us for exercising iron control over the minds, hearts, and lives of our believers, they take up castigating us for being too tolerant of the wayward, and trusting too much the God will gather His sheep. As long as the conclusion is that Catholics are wrong, wrong, wrongity,wrong, wrong, any old argument will do -- even art criticism.
