Guys—I heard the same thing a while back about some gay group that was renting out a church’s parish hall and doing what Drift said.
I think they were kicked out after the parishoners caught wind of it, and the church may not have known the details of these bingo nights, but I’m pretty sure it happened.
It wasn’t church sponsored, though. I think I read about it in the National Catholic Register or something....I’ll check it out. :-(
Here’s some other links I found regarding the goings on at this ‘church’

The long awaited return of the Castros longest running Bingo Revival Bingo kicked off at Ellard Hall on Sept. 7 at 100 Diamond Street and 18th in the heart of the Castro. The new home includes more space, more seating capacity, a big stage, and a brand new sound & video system (thanks to Dave the bear) with all players on one main floor instead of having to hang from the rafters at the old venue. There are now three professional video screens replacing the old board with colored dry markers.

” Masses at MHR are highly innovative. The congregation holds hands for the Our Father and remains standing for the Consecration. The church has an excellent choir, but the highlight of the service is the kiss of peace with everyone mulling around the pews hugging and kissing everyone else. Same-sex partners openly embrace and kiss on the lips”
