So, what happens if you fail to follow Christ’s commandments? What happens if you fail to serve Him with those works He has called on us to do? How can anyone expect salvation if he does not try his best to obey Christ? Why should He reach out to you if you refuse to reach out to Him?

Your enigma is bound up in what is Salvation, of the human spirit and the human soul (behavior mechanism). You cannot earn the Salvation of your immortal spirit. If you stumble after becoming a member of His family by being born again, He is faithful and just to forgive when you confess to Him. THEN the Spirit Who will not leave you or forsake you, The LIFE in your human spirit, will again be heard from within to continue transforming you. There are no works of your flesh which can earn His Grace. ‘With the mouth confession is made unto salvation and with the heart man believeth unto righteousness.’ Whose righteousness? His, which you become heir to when born again. It is by His Faith that you may receive the covenant He has established with calvary and the resurrection. It is by your faithing (action word) that He transforms you as your old nature inherited from Adam is crucified in the flesh, the flesh which you possess in this life.

"What happens if you fail to serve Him with those works He has called on us to do?" And would you tell me what those works are? Are they feeding the hungry, aiding the poor, clothing the needy? Those are not righteousness works they are works a member of God's family does because The Life of God dwells in them. So what are these 'works' He has called upon you to do? Are they not related to the turning away from sin of to your 'metanoia', your turning about to face Him, His righteousness? Are the works you are called to do outward behaviors, or are they soul transformations as God's Spirit in your human spirit reveals the sin in your nature and offers His strength to turn from 'it' in aspects that effect your behavior?

Like these?

KJV John 6:28-29
28. Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?
29. Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.
