Lk 16:19-31
Jesus said to the Pharisees:
"There was a rich man who dressed in purple garments and fine linen
and dined sumptuously each day.
And lying at his door was a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores,
who would gladly have eaten his fill of the scraps
that fell from the rich man's table.
Dogs even used to come and lick his sores.
When the poor man died,
he was carried away by angels to the bosom of Abraham.
The rich man also died and was buried,
and from the netherworld, where he was in torment,
he raised his eyes and saw Abraham far off
and Lazarus at his side.
And he cried out, 'Father Abraham, have pity on me.
Send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue,
for I am suffering torment in these flames.'
Abraham replied,
'My child, remember that you received
what was good during your lifetime
while Lazarus likewise received what was bad;
but now he is comforted here, whereas you are tormented.
Moreover, between us and you a great chasm is established
to prevent anyone from crossing who might wish to go
from our side to yours or from your side to ours.’
He said, 'Then I beg you, father,
send him to my father's house, for I have five brothers,
so that he may warn them,
lest they too come to this place of torment.'
But Abraham replied, 'They have Moses and the prophets.
Let them listen to them.'
He said, 'Oh no, father Abraham,
but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.'
Then Abraham said, 'If they will not listen to Moses and the prophets,

Since the 16th century Catholic piety has assigned entire months to special devotions. Due to her feast day on September 15, the month of September has traditionally been set aside to honor Our Lady of Sorrows. All the sorrows of Mary (the prophecy of Simeon, the three days' loss, etc.) are merged in the supreme suffering at the Passion. In the Passion, Mary suffered a martyrdom of the heart because of Our Lord's torments and the greatness of her love for Him. "She it was," says Pope Pius XII, "who immune from all sin, personal or inherited, and ever more closely united with her Son, offered Him on Golgotha to the Eternal Father together with the holocaust of her maternal rights and motherly love. As a new Eve, she made this offering for all the children of Adam contaminated through his unhappy fall. Thus she, who was the mother of our Head according to the flesh, became by a new title of sorrow and glory the spiritual mother of all His members."

TO THE QUEEN OF MARTYRS
Mary, most holy Virgin and Queen of Martyrs, accept the sincere homage of my filial affection. Into thy heart, pierced by so many swords, do thou welcome my poor soul. Receive it as the companion of thy sorrows at the foot of the Cross, on which Jesus died for the redemption of the world. With thee, O sorrowful Virgin, I will gladly suffer all the trials, contradictions, and infirmities which it shall please our Lord to send me. I offer them all to thee in memory of thy sorrows, so that every thought of my mind, and every beat of my heart may be an act of compassion and of love for thee. TO THE MOTHER OF SORROWS
Most holy Virgin. and Mother, whose soul was pierced by a sword of sorrow in the Passion of thy divine Son, and who in His glorious Resurrection wast filled with never-ending joy at His triumph; obtain for us who call upon thee, so to be partakers in the adversities of Holy Church and the sorrows of the Sovereign Pontiff, as to be found worthy to rejoice with them in the consolations for which we pray, in the charity and peace of the same Christ our Lord. IN HONOR OF THE SORROWS OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY
O most holy and afflicted Virgin! Queen of Martyrs! thou who didst stand motionless beneath the Cross, witnessing the agony of thy expiring Son--through the unceasing sufferings of thy life of sorrow, and the bliss which now more than amply repays thee for thy past trials, look down with a mother's tenderness and pity on me, who kneel before thee to venerate thy dolors, and place my requests, with filial confidence, in the sanctuary of thy wounded heart; present them, I beseech thee, on my behalf, to Jesus Christ, through the merits of His own most sacred death and passion, together with thy sufferings at the foot of the cross, and through the united efficacy of both obtain the grant of my present petition. O most holy Virgin, Mother of our Lord Jesus Christ: by the overwhelming grief you experienced when you witnessed the martyrdom, the crucifixion, and the death of your divine Son, look upon me with eyes of compassion, and awaken in my heart a tender commiseration for those sufferings, as well as a sincere detestation of my sins, in order that, being disengaged from all undue affection for the passing joys of this earth, I may sigh after the eternal Jerusalem, and that henceforward all my thoughts and all my actions may be directed towards this one most desirable object. | Consecration to Our Lady of Sorrows Most holy Virgin and Queen of Martyrs, Mary, would that I could be in Heaven, there to contemplate the honors rendered to thee by the Most Holy Trinity and by the whole Heavenly Court! But since I am still a pilgrim in this vale of tears, receive from me, thy unworthy servant and a poor sinner, the most sincere homage and the most perfect act of vassalage a human creature can offer thee. In thy Immaculate Heart, pierced with so many swords of sorrow, I place today my poor soul forever; receive me as a partaker in thy dolors, and never suffer that I should depart from that Cross on which thy only begotten Son expired for me. With thee, O Mary, I will endure all the sufferings, contradictions, infirmities, with which it will please thy Divine Son to visit me in this life. Our Lady of Sorrows: Sorrowful Mother
to At the Cross Her Station Keeping
The Rosary of the Seven Sorrows consists of 7 groups of 7 beads, with 3 additional beads and a Crucifix. Say each of the sorrow below followed by 7 Hail Mary's. The 7 groups of 7 Hail Mary's are recited in remembrance of
the 7 Sorrows of Mary:
1. The prophecy of Simeon.
2. The flight into Egypt.
3. The loss of the Child Jesus in the Temple.
4. Mary meets Jesus carrying His cross.
5. The Crucifixion
6. Mary received the Body of Jesus from the cross
7. The Body of Jesus is placed in a tomb.
3 Hail Mary's are added in remembrance of the tears Mary shed because of the suffering of her Divine Son. These are said to obtain true sorrow for our sins.
The concluding prayer follows:

Let us pray:
Lord Jesus, we now implore, both for the present and for the hour of our death, the intercession of the most Blessed Virgin Mary, Thy Mother, whose holy soul was pierced at the time of Thy passion by a sword of grief. Grant us this favor, O Saviour of the world, Who livest and reignest with the Father and the Holy Spirit, forever and ever. Amen.
The Blessed Virgin Mary grants 7 special graces to the souls who honor her daily by saying 7 Hail Mary's
and meditating on her tears and dolors. This devotion was passed on by St. Bridget of Sweden.
Here are the 7 special graces:
1. I will grant peace to their families.
2. They will be enlightened about the divine mysteries.
3. I will console them in their pains, and I will accompany them in their work.
4. I will give them as much as they ask for as long as it does not oppose the adorable will of my divine Son or the sanctification of their souls.
5. I will defend them in their spiritual battles with the infernal enemy, and I will protect them at every instant of their lives.
6. I will visibly help them at the moment of their death; they will see the face of their mother.
7. I have obtained (this grace) from my divine Son, that those who propagate this devotion to my tears and dolors, will be taken directly from this earthly life to eternal happiness since all their sins will be forgiven and my Son and I will be their eternal consolation and joy.

PRAYER: "I pray for the gift of respect for life to overcome the temptation to anger."

Third Sorrow of Mary, The Loss of Jesus in the Temple:
"My Mother did not look in the Temple for Me, and so lost Me for three days (like My three days in the tomb). My Priests are failing today to look for Me in the 'Temple,' in obedience to My Pope and to the authority I have placed in My Church. My Church is in its THREE DAYS OF DARKNESS and has much to suffer for its disobedience. Offer the pain in My Mother's Hearts that My priests might return to MY TEMPLE and find me again." (There was an interior Knowledge that Jesus was Not saying this was true of all His priests, but rather He was mourning over those priests who were doing this, plus asking for prayer for them.)
PRAYER: "I pray for the gift of obedience to overcome the temptation to Pride."
Pray 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary, 1 Glory Be, and the Litany
Fourth Sorrow of Mary, Mary Meets Jesus on the Road to Calvary:
"My priests will no longer accept the pain of the WAY OF THE CROSS. They no longer walk with Me as My Mother did. They especially refuse the pain and sacrifice of their vow of celibacy. Sexual sins are destroying My Church." (Again, as above, Jesus was not saying this was true of all priests, but was grieving over those who were doing this.)
PRAYER: "I pray for the gift of chastity to overcome the temptation to lust."

Fifth Sorrow of Mary,Jesus is Nailed to the Cross:

Pray that they will return to a willingness to do penance and offer sacrifices for their brothers and sisters in need, who still constitute My broken body."

Seventh Sorrow of Mary, Jesus is Laid in the Tomb:

Offering
Eternal Father, we offer Thee the Blood, the Passion, and the Death of Jesus Christ, the sorrows of Mary most holy, and of St. Joseph, in satisfaction for our sins, in aid of the holy souls in Purgatory, for the needs of holy Mother Church, and for the conversion of sinners.

Prayer Before an Image of the Mother of Sorrows
O most compassionate Mother, what bitterness filled thy heart when thou didst embrace the lacerated Body of thy Son with thy virginal arms, press Him lovingly to thy maternal heart, and cover Him with tenderest kisses. I remind thee of this inexpressible bitterness, in virtue of which I beseech thee to obtain for me forgiveness of my sins.
O Mary, pray for me, a poor sinner, to thy Jesus Whom thou didst hold in thy arms. Take the wounded Body of thy Son into thy maternal arms, and offer Him in this condition to the Heavenly Father for me. Offer His pierced Heart, His Passion and Death, and all thy own immeasurable sorrows to obtain grace and mercy for me, particularly (mention the favor you desire here). Amen.

Prayer to Our Lady, Comforter of the Afflicted
Immaculate Virgin Mary, Mother of God and our most compassionate Mother, we present ourselves in thy sight in all humility, and with full confidence we implore thee for thy maternal patronage.
Thou hast been proclaimed by Holy Church the Comforter of the Afflicted, and to thee constant recourse is had by the sorrowful in their afflictions, the sick in their maladies, the dying in their agony, the poor in their straitened circumstances, those who stand in all manner of need in both public and private calamities; and from thee they all receive consolation and strength.
Our dearest Mother, turn upon us also, wretched sinners that we are, thy merciful eyes, and graciously accept our humble and confident prayers. Aid us in all our spiritual and temporal necessities; deliver us from all evil, and especially from sin, which is the greatest evil, and from all danger of falling into it; obtain for us from thy Son Jesus every blessing of which thou seest we stand in need, both in soul and in body, and especially the greatest blessing of all, which is Divine grace. Comfort our spirits, troubled and afflicted in the midst of the many dangers that threaten us and in the countless miseries and misfortunes that beset us on every side. Obtain tranquility for Holy Church, help and comfort for her visible Head, the Roman Pontiff, peace for Christian princes, refreshment in their pains for the Holy Souls in Purgatory; for sinners, the forgiveness of their sins, and for the just, perseverance in well-doing. Receive us all, our most tender Mother, under thy loving and mighty protection, that we may be enabled to live virtuously, die holily and attain to everlasting happiness in heaven. Amen.

Prayer to the Mother of Sorrow
O Mother of Sorrows, by the anguish and love with which thou didst stand at the cross of Jesus, stand by me in my last agony. To thy maternal heart I commend the last three hours of my life. Offer these hours to the Eternal Father in union with the agony of our dearest Lord in atonement for my sins. Offer to the Eternal Father the most Precious Blood of Jesus, mingled with your tears on Calvary, that I may obtain the grace of receiving Holy Communion with the most perfect love and contrition before my death, and that I may breathe forth my soul in the adorable Presence of Jesus.
Dearest Mother, when the moment of my death has at length come, present me as your child to Jesus. Ask Him to forgive me for having offended Him for I know not what I did. Beg Him to receive me into His kingdom of glory to be united with Him forever. Amen.

Thou didst cooperate in the benefit of my redemption by thine innumerable afflictions and by offering to the Eternal Father His only begotten Son as a holocaust and victim of propitiation for my sins. I thank thee for the unspeakable love which led thee to deprive thyself of the Fruit of thy womb, Jesus, true God and true Man, to save me, a sinner. PRAYER TO OUR SORROWFUL MOTHER
O Mother of Sorrows, thou, who beneath the Cross of Jesus were given to us as our Mother, look down with pity on us, thy children, who weep and mourn in this valley of tears. By that sword of sorrow which pierced thy Heart when thou looked upon the Face of thy dead Son, obtain for us that comfort we so sorely need in our sufferings.
Thou were given to us our Mother in the hour of thy greatest grief that thou might be mindful of our frailty and the evils that press upon us. Without thy aid, O Sorrowful Mother, we cannot gain the victory in this struggle against flesh and blood. Therefore, we seek thy help, O Queen of Sorrows, lest we fall prey to the wiles of the enemy. We are orphans in need of the guiding hand of our Mother amid the dangers that threaten our destruction. Thou whose grief was boundless as the sea, grant us by the memory of those sorrows the strength to be victorious.
Intercede further, O Mother of Sorrows, for us and all who are near and dear to us, that we may ever do the Will of thy Son, and may direct all our actions to His honor, and to the furtherance of devotion to thy sorrows. Amen.

Daily Recommendation:
Pray 1 Hail Mary for each of the 7 Sorrows Our Lady experienced. This is easy and can be done anywhere, anytime, without having to have your prayerbook with you. You just have to memorize the 7 Sorrows, and you're set! This will at least show Our Lady that you acknowledge her sorrows, and remember them in appreciation. I'm sure she will be happy with you, and shower you with her special blessings.

| Option for the Poor | ||
Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. He came to us, sent by our heavenly Father, to redeem the world from sin, death and the power of Satan, to reconcile us with the Father and to teach us the path to the fullness of life. Our Lord's parables are particularly important stories that teach critical truths about this "way" which leads to peace and happiness.
Today's Gospel parable about the rich man and Lazarus is a handcrafted story which enables Christ to teach with precision that each of His disciples must have a special place in his heart for the poor.
Christ describes Lazarus as a poor man, covered with sores and desiring to eat the scraps from the rich man's table. As if that description was not enough to encourage compassion in the heart of His disciples, He adds that dogs even used to come and lick his sores. Jesus is revealing His heart. He sees the pain and anguish of the poor and the sick, and it stirs His emotions.
The rich man dresses well and dines sumptuously. The evil is that he does not see poor Lazarus lying at his door. His failure to see or do anything about this poor man is the only reason given in the passage for his existence after his death in "the netherworld, where he was in torment." It was obviously a determining factor in how he was judged upon his exit from this world.
Jesus gives a hint at the solution when He describes the rich man's interaction with Abraham, in whose bosom Lazarus rests upon his death. Abraham reprimands the rich man: "Remember that you received what was good during your lifetime." His blessings on earth were a gift from God. He received them. Sure, he may have been clever, hard working and industrious, but those gifts came from God as well. His success in business and life came from God, but he failed to recognize those gifts and to realize that he was supposed to share his gifts with the poor, the sick and the not-so-clever of this world. He sinned by failing to thank God for his gifts and failing to share his gifts with others.
I had a recent experience which made this truth of our Christian faith real and tangible. I met with a friend a couple of weeks ago to have a serious conversation about some recent trials in his life. We were sitting outside of an ice cream shop when a homeless man approached us to engage in conversation and ask for some assistance. I was impressed when my friend took him into a nearby sub shop and bought him dinner. He interrupted his own conversation with me and attended to this man's needs for companionship and food. It warmed my heart.
My friend reminded me that to be a disciple of Jesus Christ is to have an option for the poor, the sick and the starving of this world. Today's parable makes it painfully obvious that this is a non-negotiable aspect of the "way." If we plow through life so concerned about our own needs and hurts that we cannot see or attend to the suffering of our neighbor, we are not His disciples, we will not experience "life" on this earth, and we will not be among those who have embraced the full truth of the Gospel. Jesus says that if we fail to see the Lazarus around us and do something to alleviate his suffering, we will not be happy come judgment day.
On the contrary, as we come to know and love Jesus as our Savior and our brother, we will begin to love those whom He loves, see what He sees and take care of those who are hurting around us. Lord, grant me a heart for the poor, the sick and the hungry.

Twenty-Sixth Sunday of Ordinary Time
There was a rich man who dressed in purple garments and fine linen and dined sumptuously each day. And lying at his door was a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, who would gladly have eaten his fill of the scraps that fell from the rich man's table.
The second reading is from the first letter of St. Paul to Timothy 6:11-16. In these verses St. Paul is exhorting Timothy to strive to become daily more perfect in his observance of the Christian faith. He had made a public and noble profession of that faith on the occasion of his baptism as a young man. He must continue to profess it.
The Gospel is from St. Luke 16:19-31. We have here a story of two men whose states, both in this life and in the next, are dramatically opposed. The rich man had everything a man could desire on this earth and he set his heart on this wealth, to such a degree that he excluded all thought of God or of what followed after death. It was not that he was ignorant of God or of a future life (our Lord was addressing the parable to the Pharisees); he admits that he had Moses and the prophets, but he paid no heed to them. He was too busy trying to squeeze the last ounce of pleasure out of his few years on earth.
On the other half of the picture we have a beggar, a man not only in dire destitution, but suffering bodily pains as well. He bore his lot patiently. He was quite content if he got the crumbs that fell from the rich man's table, which he probably did not always get. He must have been disappointed that this rich man never thought of giving him a helping hand but there is no mention of his ever criticizing or blaming him. He left these things to God.
Both men die eventually. The beggar goes straight to heaven to a state of endless happiness. His bodily sufferings have ended forever, he will never be in want again. The rich man fares very differently. His enjoyments are over forever. He is now in torments and he is told that he can expect no relief. They will have no end. Abraham tells him why he is in his present state: he abused his time on earth. He sees the truth of this. He knows that he has no one to blame but himself which must add greatly to his torments. It is also a cause of additional grief to him that his bad example will lead his brothers (his fellowmen) to a like fate.
All the parables of our Lord are based on everyday happenings. While we hope and pray that the case of the rich man described here is not an everyday occurrence, we cannot doubt but that such cases have happened and will happen again. This rich man is not in eternal torments because he was rich and even very rich. He is in eternal torments because he let his wealth become his master and forgot God and his neighbor and his own real welfare -- eternal life. There are men like him in our world today, men who completely ignore their real future. While they are convinced that their stay on this earth is of very short duration and that they will have to leave it very, very soon, they still act and live as if they had a permanent home here.
This is true not only of those who try (ineffectively most probably) to keep from their minds all thought of a future life, but even of some who openly profess to be Christians and who recite so often the words of the Creed: "I believe in the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come." Yet, they are so busy trying to get the wealth and the pleasures of this life, or to increase all they have of them already, that they haven't a moment to spare for the thing that really matters-their future unending life after death.
God forbid that any of us should be numbered amongst these foolish people, for there is no greater folly on earth than to miss the real and only purpose in life because of a few trivial, passing attractions. We are not forbidden to have some of this world's goods. We need some, and God it was who provided them for our use. But we must use them properly and we must not set them up as idols to be adored. On all sides of us there are Lazaruses placed at our gates by God to give us an opportunity to exercise fraternal charity. Be a true brother to them now and you will not have to envy them hereafter.
If on the other hand your lot is that of a Lazarus—and many there are whose life is one long, continual struggle against poverty, disease and hardship —try to carry your cross patiently. Envy of your neighbor and rebellion against God will only add to, and do not cure, your ills. The day of judgment, which for you will be the day of reward, if you are humble and patient, is around the comer. Eternal happiness is worth twenty lives of earthly ill-fortune.

Lax about Lazarus
Introductory Prayer: My Jesus, I believe that you are here with me as I begin this meditation. Help me stay focused on you in this time of prayer and seek to please you, without seeking my own spiritual consolation. Attune my heart to what you want to tell me. Let me feel your closeness, now and throughout the day. Petition: Lord, make me more aware of the people around me who need my help. 1. Nice Isn´t Enough The rich man in today´s Gospel is the proverbial “nice guy”. His good qualities abound. He does, after all, accept his fate meekly. He doesn´t ask to be released from hell; he only asks for a drop of water to quench his thirst. And when he can´t even get that much relief, he begs for a special messenger in the hopes of sparing his own brothers a similar fate. He at least thinks of the welfare of others. Yet, all that niceness didn´t save him from eternal punishment. Do I ever think that just being a "nice" person will get me to heaven? Might I be using my own standards to judge my worthiness, rather than using God´s standards? 2. The “O” Word The rich man never seemed to be bothered by Lazarus. The poor man was doubtlessly a pitiful sight to behold. Some people would have been quick to send servants to chase the beggar away. But not the rich man; no, he deliberately left the beggar alone. And that is where the rich man erred. His was a sin of omission. The rich man lost his soul, not for what he did, but for what he failed to do. Am I much better? Is there someone in need, right under my nose, who I routinely ignore? Is there something I could be doing to end an evil? Do I help the pro-life effort? Do I contribute to the poor? Do I dedicate time to a needy child or sibling or in-law? 3. Late Love The rich man, now condemned, shows concern for his five brothers. They, presumably, are living it up — and destined for the same end as their hapless sibling. The rich man´s concern is well-placed, but his timing is late. If only he had shown concern for his brothers´ souls when he was alive — then he might have made an impact. Caring for family members, helping them reach heaven, is the most loving thing we can do for them. Everything else will be meaningless if our own behavior (or omission) prevents others from attaining salvation. Does that prompt me to pray constantly for family members? To offer up sacrifices for them? Do I try to help others grow in their faith? Conversation with Christ: Lord, my time in this world is short. Let me show love to people in the here and now. Too many people suffer the unexpected death of loved ones and then regret that they didn´t do more for them. Let me not make that same mistake. Help me see that each day is a gift, and each encounter with another person as an opportunity to show your love to them. Resolution: I will do an act of charity for someone whom I have been taking for granted. |

| The Next Move Is Yours! | ||
Am 6:1a, 4-7 / 1 Tm 6:11-16 / Lk 16:19-31
A donkey fell into a deep well, and it cried piteously for hours as the farmer tried to figure what to do. Finally, he decided that the animal was old, and the well was dry and needed to be filled in anyway, so he invited his neighbors to come and help fill it in. As they all began to shovel, the donkey realized what was happening and cried miserably. But after awhile, it fell silent and everyone presumed it was dead and buried. Just to make sure, the farmed leaned over the edge. He was astonished at what he saw! The donkey was still alive! As each shovelful hit his back, he’d shake it off and take a step up. Again and again: Take the hit, shake if off, step up. And before long, the donkey stepped over the edge of the well and trotted away! What had looked like death and burial turned out to be resurrection!

Life shovels dirt on all of us. There’s no escaping it! But what is within our power is how we respond. Jesus told us that "for those who love God, all things work for the good." But they don’t just work automatically. We have to search for the good that’s hidden in even the grossest of evils. We have to search for it and then build on it. That’s the task we face.
So what is the good that’s hidden in a tragedy like 9/11? It’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance to rethink the values and priorities of our country and of our own families. Such tragedies shake us badly, but they also shake loose habits and attitudes that have needed changing for a long time. In the face of such tragedies, suddenly, a lot of what we think and do seems stupid, shallow, irrelevant, or even shameful.
Every tragedy that the world has suffered, from the 9/11 attacks to the current war in Iraq, reminds us, better than any preacher could, that life is precious and not to be wasted or frittered away. We are paying a huge price for that insight, and we mustn’t lose it. We need to look at ourselves: How we spend our leisure, how we spend our cash, how we use our gifts, what we teach our kids, who we listen to, what we look at, what we read, what we ignore, who our heroes are, what we invest in life, what our choices tell us we value.
We have a lot to learn about ourselves and about what a good life looks like. But if we search out the truth and act on it, evil will not prevail in us or in our country. Like the old donkey, we will take hits. Like the donkey, we can shake them off and step up. What looks like death and burial can turn out to be a resurrection!
O God, come to my aid.
O Lord, make haste to help me.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,

Sunday, September 30, 2007 Meditation Luke 16:19-31 The rich man was sure that his brothers would be convinced if someone were to come back from the dead and speak to them. Surely a miracle like that would turn them around! Yet as amazing as healings and miracles are, Jesus proclaimed that true life comes from God’s word. The word of God is living and active. Rather than being just ink on a page, God’s word has the power to bring life out of death. It can penetrate the very thoughts and attitudes of the heart (Hebrews 4:12). Our Father wants his words to leap off the page and bring true freedom to our lives. He wants his words to sink into our hearts, transforming us into the people God calls us to be. All this happens because the Holy Spirit is the source of Scripture. As we read the Bible, the Spirit is ready to convince us of God’s truths, open us up to the Father’s direction, and fill us with zeal for him. It is because of the Spirit that the word of God remains always fresh and new. Have you ever read a familiar passage and suddenly understood something you had never seen before? Has a verse ever caused you to want to praise God? That’s the Holy Spirit at work! God also speaks when we share his word with each other. If a passage has touched you and taught you more about God—or even yourself—go ahead and share it with a friend. Then watch God lift them up as well. When his word touches us and changes the way we live, it is yet another demonstration of the power of Scripture. Our lives speak to the people around us by revealing how effective God’s word can be. Is someone you know struggling? Read the Scriptures aloud, as a prayer, and bring God’s presence into that situation. God really does want to reveal himself through his word—and through us as we are transformed by that word! “Father, when you speak you bring life. Let your word go out to the whole world. Speak, Lord, and transform your people by your power and grace!” Amos 6:1,4-7; Psalm 146:7-10; 1 Timothy 6:11-16 |
