**“Christianity of the future, will either be mystical or it will not be at all.” Padre Pio and Mother Teresa are the answer to this sign of the times.**

An interesting statement, to say the least!

But he is saying that she was a "mystic", and that was where I stopped reading.

"placing her at the side of the greatest mystics of Christianity"

My faith and common sense tells me different. She and the other saints were not mystics...they were servants of the living God, despite their weaknesses, and inspite of them, with His help and guidance.

It's been said that the closer one gets to God, the more sinful one feels. It's also been said when you feel the most lonely, that is when God is closest to you.

Mother shared the intense suffering of Jesus when he said, "My God, my God, why has thou forsaken me?" Her prayers to share in his suffering were in fact answered.

She was afraid, in speaking about it, of attracting attention to herself.

Unless Mother Teresa actually confided this to someone, the reason given for her silence is pure speculation.

It was she who "deceived" herself about her spiritual status, not the people.

Could the anguish she suffered possibly be attributed to natural causes, such as a lack of self-esteem? Many, many people take their good works for granted, as in, that's what we are supposed to do!

In their own mind, they are not good enough, they don't measure up. They are too hard on themselves and they suffer because of it.

Whatever the reason that Mother Teresa had "dark nights of the soul", she was an extraordinary woman who gave her life to God through her care of the poorest among us.

I find it astonishing that the media, even the Roman Catholic media find Mother Theresa’s spiritual struggles so noteworthy, or perhaps better said, that the media is surprised by it. Great holiness attracts great evil. Part of the glory of saints is their triumph over powerful demons.

Great article. Thanks for posting this. Mother Theresa was very deep indeed. God love her.

The interminable night of some modern saints is the means of protection invented by God for today’s saints who live and work constantly under the spotlight of the media. It is the asbestos suit for the one who must walk amid the flames; it is the insulating material that impedes the escape of the electric current, causing short circuits.

St. Paul said: “And to keep me from being too elated by the abundance of revelations, a thorn was given me in the flesh” (2 Corinthians 12:7).

Great insight.

Persons that have a deep love for God and persevere daily in trying to follow Him always have dark nights of the soul. God tests each one for the quality of their live, faith and perseverence. The deeeper the love, devotion, and perseverence of the person, the greater the test. The great saints of the Church (Catholic and Eastern Orthodox) certainly went through it. I’ve known plenty of Protestants who went through the same dark night experience.
