The Tridentine Mass and Where It Can Be Found in the USA (VANITY)
My Cerebral Cortex ^ | September 16, 2007 | Francis Xavier Sheed

Posted on 09/16/2007 5:17:31 PM PDT by Frank Sheed

I have been asked to post a bulletin board or recurring thread on where the Tridentine Mass can be found in the U.S. Some Freepers have found that the Mass is offered in their cities or states and this came from back channels.

There are sites where this information is being posted. The blog, Summorum Pontificum, is an ongoing thread of stories on the TLM. The site, Sancta Missae, is being posted by the Saint John Cantius Society in Chicago to assist Catholics to understand the Mass and to assist priests in saying it.

Kindly use this post to identify where you are finding the Mass and when. Then, tell other Freepers. If there are updates, please add them.

I would suppose that Una Voce is going to be doing some of this also, but this is the unofficial Freeper thread. Thanks to Nanette for suggesting this.

Oremus!

Spokane has NEVER had an Indult. Now the Latin Mass returns, but quietly so that the Bishop won’t punish those who are doing the right thing.

Thanks for the ping Frank!

I have two new Latin Mass locations in western Pennsylvania:
The Altoona-Johnstown Diocese
The Greensburg Diocese

In the Altoona-Johnstown Diocese:

There will be a private low traditional Latin Mass every Sunday at 5:00pm, beginning today, September 16, at Queen of Peace Church in Patton PA.

They will have a private high Mass on Sundays at 1:00pm, as soon as the priest (Fr. Ananias Buccione) has a choir trained and alter servers trained. Until then, everyone is welcome to attend his private Sunday evening 5:00pm low latin (”Tridentine”) Mass, which will also fulfill their Sunday obligation. The address is:

Queen of Peace Parish
907 Sixth Ave.
Patton, PA 16668
Phone: (814) 674-8983

http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=d&dad...tton,+PA+16668

There is a blog post with a picture of their mass this evening at http://vivificat1.blogspot.com/2007/09/folks.html

~~~~~~~~~
In the Greensburg Diocese:
From “Aloysius”
“I have been coordinating the efforts of students at St. Vincent College as well as people in the surrounding diocese for the celebration of private masses starting on September 14 in the crypt of St. Vincent Basilica. They will not be publicly scheduled or announced, so in order to know about them and request to attend, you will need to become part of our email list by emailing
stvincentlatinmass@gmail.com
Check out our website:
http://www.stvincentlatinmass.com
We have somewhere between 20 and 30 students, a few professors, and around 7 priests who are definitely interested (not all of them are competent in the rite yet, but are researching, studying, and being trained by those who are). In addition, I’ve been in contact with some of the organizers of the petition that was brought to Bishop Brandt a few years ago, I have heard that there were over 400 signatures, we are trying to get into contact with all of them and get them on our email list.
So anyway, we’re just a group of the laity organized in order to easily discover when private masses will be offered and request to be present at them, as is our right according to the appropriate canons about lay associations and the sections of the Motu Proprio which permit anyone to be present at masses “without a congregation”, is not scheduled.
(My Note: On Sept 14th, there were two masses said back-to-back, with a total of about 90 people in attendance)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Also, there is an already-active Latin Mass Community at St. Boniface (Holy Wisdom Parish) in Pittsburgh. I’ve attended several times - it’s just lovely!

Looks like nothing in Dallas has changed. The TLM at the beautiful, centrally located church is at the most inconvenient times (6:30 a.m. M-F and 8 a.m. Sat) and the Sunday Mass is at a small chapel at a convent located in West Oak Cliff, hard to get to, and in a bad part of town. All this despite a new bishop and the Motu Proprio. :(

Irish archbishop sets up traditionalist chaplaincy

Dublin, Sep. 18, 2007 (CWNews.com) - Archbishop Diarmuid Martin of Dublin has established a special chaplaincy in the Irish capital for Catholics devoted to the traditional Mass.

The archbishop has designated St. Kevin’s church in Dublin as a chaplaincy where Mass will be celebrated regularly using the 1962 Roman Missal. The interior of the church building is being restored to accommodate the older liturgy.

Archbishop Martin— who celebrated the Tridentine Mass himself in 2005, under the terms of the indult that was superseded by Summorum Pontificum— was acting in response to that papal initiative encouraging wider use of the traditional liturgy. The Sunday Business Post of Dublin reports that next Sunday, Bishop Colm O’Reilly of Ardagh and Clonmacnois, “will be the first Irish bishop to use the old rite since Summorum Pontificum came into force.”

I wouldn’t be surprised if this brings Ireland back to its previous position as the most solidly Catholic country in Europe. I have read of the creeping secularism and this will surely stop it!

Just got this by email:

An FSSP priest has requested that people should send a note of appreciation to EWTN for broadcasting the Solemn High Mass last Friday.

A brief email to this address: viewer@ewtn.com would help to encourage more traditional rite programming. There was some talk already about a weekly TV series exploring the theology & spirituality of the traditional rite. This could be a great resource for us in the future.

Thanks all!

From Fr. Zulzdorf:

“I received a good bit of news today. A WDTPRS reader sent me a copy of correspondence with the Rector of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington D.C., Msgr. Walter R. Rossi.

Here is the interesting part:

Lay folks from parishes or Latin Mass communities established by local ordinaries in full communion with the Holy See will be able to schedule public pilgrimages to the Shrine and use the extraordinary form provided that they have a priest with them who is able to celebrate this Liturgy.”

So! It looks as if the older form of liturgy will be possible when groups come.

Yes, and one of the commenters is starting up the idea of a traditional pilgrimage to the National Shrine.
