the Army of Mary...their heretical beliefs that derive from the writings of Marie-Paule Giguère, an 86-year-old mystic who claims to be a reincarnation of the Virgin Mary....In her writings, Mme. Giguère described visions and messages she received from God, explaining that Mary, the mother of Jesus, is fully divine, and also that, as her modern incarnation, so is Mme. Giguère. Rather than the traditional Catholic Trinity - in which God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit are each fully divine and part of a three-part deity - the Army of Mary now speaks of a "quinternity," including Mary and Mme. Giguère. If she's Mary reincarnate, wouldn't that keep it to a quadernity?

People always scream in horror when the Vatican expels these people, but just think - if the Church had been powerful enough in the ME at the time of Mohammed to denounce him and declare him a heretic (because his syncretist religion included Christian figures as well as pagan and Jewish figures), and then seriously defend people from him and go after him by any means, the entire history of the world would have been different.
Heresies aren't purely theoretical matters, but have profound consequences in human life.

I suppose whether it's a quin or quad depends on whether the reincarnation of John Doe is the same person as the original John Doe ... since reincarnation is itself a heresy, I'm not going there. It's pointless.
I do find this whole mess instructive, though. Some folks who are too ignorant to know any better accuse the Church of worshipping Mary as divine; these poor deluded souls sometimes go so far as to accuse the Church of essentially recognising four persons in the deity. Such foolishness!
Yet, here we have a group doing exactly that ... And they get formally excommunicated. So, let nobody any further accuse the Church of Mary worship. Mary-worshipers are excommunicated. They're not Catholic. Their beliefs are heresy; their organisation schismatic. Roma locuta. Causa finita est.

Puhleeeze do not confuse yet another cult of self-worshiping poseurs as actual Catholics. The Vatican has acted. They are excommunicated. So be it.
