YORBA LINDA A three-member faction of the board of Calvary Baptist Church of Yorba Linda that opposed informing members of alleged misdeeds by two former pastors gained control of the church Sunday night.
The three met without the other two board members Saturday to pick five new board members, who were all approved by a vote of the congregation Sunday night.
Members who wanted to nominate other candidates were silenced by board member James Hutchings, who told them, "If you can't get with us, then go."

And YES they are PD.

Dunno why my thumbnail isn’t showing up.
For some reason, adding the www. back into the URL fixed it. Weird.
“Now, dozens of members have begun looking for a new place to worship.”
Voting with their feet.
It’s very hard to do that though. Sometimes people who’ve been at a church 30 years are tossed out with the trash like they don’t matter anymore. Little old ladies with nothing in their hearts but to worship the Lord and love his people get vilified and tossed out because they question the worldliness that is brought into the church. They’re called ‘selfish’ because they are too ‘stuck in the mud’ to change things in order to make the ‘unchurched’ feel ‘welcome’ in the church. (When in truth, they’re probably the ones who make new people feel the most welcome as long as such people aren’t trying to get away with sin!)
Does PD = Personally Driven?
This is the ultimate goal of Purpose Driven, Transitioning or Church Growth Movement advocates. Gain control of the board, or even do away with the Board. Drive the opponents away, then gain control of assets.
Every church I have attended has Corporate Bylaws that require all meetings to be in the open before the entire congregation, not just the board, unless it is a personnel matter. This should invite all tithe paying members to file a lawsuit to regain control of their church, built with their funds through the years.
It looks like they got rid of the pastor but the remaining faction in control now has been infected by the PD virus too.
Was that a joke or were you really asking?
Just wanna be sure! :-)
They do but... Mcalister has already dealt with that with Rick Warren's blessing:
Transition from frequent business meetings to an annual business meeting
One of the major problems in many transitioning churches is the monthly business meeting. As part of the structure change, it is important to move the church away from the need to vote on everything and to trust their leaders to make certain decisions. For those churches finding it difficult to implement an annual business meeting, one alternative is to transition to quarterly business meetings with the idea that you will later move to the annual business meeting.
It is imperative that the pastor provide leadership to those business meetings to ensure that the church's transition is not derailed during a business meeting. Those members who are most disgruntled will often use Robert's Rules of Order to try to manipulate the business meeting to their advantage. The pastor must emphasize that Scriptures - not Robert's Rules of Order - will dictate how the church conducts itself in all matters, including its business.
Some church members, especially those who have been involved in the power structure of the church, will have a difficult time with this part of the transition. For that reason, you must empower as many people in the church as possible to make decisions that affect their ministries without subjecting them or their ministries to a vote by the church. You must release your church members to start new ministries as they desire.
My guess is that the congregation has the say-so over the board members. Someone better get a lawyer and a set of the bylaws and church constitution. Been there, done that!
another thread to be filed under
KEYWORD: PURPOSERIVEN
Of course, since they have attorneys involved, that may help (looking at who followed the by-laws). But in most cases it doesn’t get to that point. People don’t stick around until it gets that bad in most churches.
Yep. Forgot the D though. I think I did put it in the keywords.
OH duh! Now I get it. Purpose RIVEN! (duh!) clever.
Did you see these links on another thread recently? Roddy Clyde of this organization was arrested for embezzlement.

The pastor cannot violate the by-laws. If the by-laws call for Robert’s Rules of Order, then he must abide by them. Remember, you’re dealing with a CORPORATE board, not church doctrine.
If the pastor continues to disregard the rules, his decisions on specific points of order as moderator can be reversed by congregational vote at the meeting.
Remember, there are ways to defeat the consensus/delphi/diaprax process.
The Rules of Order anticipated people trying to do ‘end runs’ around them.
McAlister doesn’t know what he’s talking about.
Incidentally, we have only one regular corporate meeting/year. That’s also in the by-laws. Special meetings can be called as the need arises.
Good resource for finding churches to avoid.
