Good seminaries are not simply enjoying a serendipitous influx of manlier applicants; theyre expressly targeting them. In what ought instantly to become the mantra of every rector and vocations director in the country, Monsignor Rohlfs tells how he seeks candidates who exude a personality of quiet confidence and strength; who demonstrate an ability to relate to men and to fathers of families, as well as to children as a spiritual father; and finally, a spirituality that brings together the best qualities of a man.... And the conversations at support groups, Monsignor Swetland adds, arent all psychobabble like they used to be.
Great post. Thanks.

Sorry, but I’ve got to brag a bit. Ron Bolster, now at Stuebenville, was formerly the Director of Catechetics for my Diocese, the Diocese of Peoria. Msgr. Sweatland was formerly the head of the Newman Center at the University of Illinois in Champaign(also in the Diocese of Peoria) and Msgr. Rohlf’s was formerly our Vicar General. As a Diocese we have truly been blessed by the work of these men and our priests and catechetical programs well reflect their work. The legacy of Archbishop Fulton Sheen continues.

One of the reasons I stepped away from the RCC was because every time I asked the question (as a woman/female) "who can I be in the church?" I was either directed to join one of the many social clubs or bible studies, or given confused looks...kind of like the looks I got when I went ot my professors my senior year and said "Okay, ive spent all thsi money getting a degree in YOUR discipline...where can I find work?" and getting this empty dismayed look...like that was a wholly unthinkable thing to ask...
I found an orthodox Anglican church that presented me with all the beauty of the Bible and worshipping God...and I finally have some of those answers...not all, but I blame my own sinful nature for not listening to God, instead of wondering why Im just a cog in the machine....

Sorry, but Ive got to brag a bit. That's not bragging ... that's celebrating the goodness of God in the life of your diocese. Thank you sharing it.

The legacy of Archbishop Fulton Sheen continues. Every young man thinking of entering the priesthood should be required to watch Bishop Sheen's old shows...
