Ping to myself (MA, I’m on dh’s computer). Yours is a beautiful post, and it gives me great hope.
Thank you. Too many today fail to understand that a husband and wife are vehicles of grace and salvation to their spouse. There are 3 persons in every marriage; you, your spouse, and God. Without His supernatural intervention in your marriage, the two remain two. It is through the reception of the Eucharist that the two are most fully joined as one body. Sex is the phsyical manifestation of what occurs within a couple through corporate communion. I wish more couples would attend Mass together, or at least both go even if they had different schedules at different times. The effect is the same; receiving the “glue”, even if not at the same time still offers the same bond. Ignore it at your marriages peril, and from the sounds of the statistics in Catholic divorce, not a whole lotta glue in these marriages either. So sad......
NONE of this occurs in a Byzantine Rite Divine Liturgy. No "Eucharistic Ministers." No "Orans." No handholding. The entire Liturgy is conducted in chant; a dialogue between the people (including the priest) and God. No dances. What we DO HAVE is two (count 'em) processions, complete with "smells" in every Liturgy. We have smells AND bells at the Consecration. We have everybody singing all the time (including the tin-ears).
Thank you, Salvation! I just bookmarked this. I found a wonderful church I really like yesterday, but was appalled at the socially imposed hand-holding during Our Father. I really dislike holding hands with strangers!!
We were also directed to greet those in neighboring pews at beginning of Mass. I am normally a friendly person but don’t feel social before, during or immediately after Mass.... y’know?
Otherwise, they do not seem to commit the other abuses listed.
