Forgot to add, “ Old St. Joseph’s”.
Some individuals have made mistakes — that does not make the Catholic Church wrong.
It would be like saying your whole congregation is wrong, because you have someone addicted to alcoholism or pornography in it.
God will be the judge.
I agree wholeheartedly with you. God bless!
Seems like it could be beautiful from the inside, with those large stained glass windows.
I know about pedastry vs.child molestation as concerns the priest scandal. I think the absolute problem is our liberal, crappy Bishops. They let the pink wolves in.
Here’s a story fer you: A few years ago we had an ultra liberal parish priest — acted as queer as a three dollar bill, “Sting” songs during the sermon, invalid matter for the hosts, pushing “liturgical movement” (that’s dance to us english speakin’ folks), allowing any ol’ whack-job to come speak during the Mass, ect... Despite all this most of our parish loved this piece of work (40+ years of bad teaching will do that to people). One sunday the parish is a-buzz ‘cause this lib priest didn’t show up — the Bishop did. After he says Mass the Bishop tells us he has to make an announcement about our parish priest. I’m thinking: alright!!The complaints must have worked!! He says something like “Father So&so had innapropriate sexual relations.........with............ an adult WOMAN!!! I was so shocked (that the guy wasn’t a fag)and relieved (that he didn’t ruin some kid’s idea of the Church) that I almost stood and cheered! I had a good feeling for weeks. That’s what the Bishops have done to us — instead of being sad that this priest broke his vow, I was happy that he wasn’t a fag and was messin’ around with an adult.
Freegards
Respectfully, no. Parishioners need to stop giving money to the parish and the diocese. They also need to confront ANYONE wearing a Roman collar and demand reform.
A Schism may not be such a bad thing for the Church. It's time to abolish celibacy and recognize that most Catholics are conservative, be it toward homosexuality or immigration.
So you are saying that it cannot be the authentic church that Jesus Himself established because it has become infiltrated with enemies? Perhaps it's really the opposite, that it's the true church because it has withstood such assaults over the centuries.
R, thanks for keeping me in your thoughts. I appreciate it.
The best to you, and to you too, Tax-chick.
Praying does not preclude choices to withold donations.
Neither does witholding donations preclude prayers. These wayward priests need prayer and more prayer.
You have heard about the page in the Pieta Prayer Book about praying for priests rather than criticiang them, haven’t you? That’s believing you are a Catholic????
I am laughing, it’s not funny, but I guess it’s just you can only take so much, and your surprise ending to the story, well, I see what you mean!
Certainly some bishops are going to have a surprise in store when they get to the Pearly Gates are are directed to the “down” elevator. But I also wonder, how blind can people be? Why do they sit there and go along with these abuses and deformations of the Mass without even questioning?
Granted, the layperson isn’t responsible to know all the rubrics, they should not HAVE to read the GIRM if the priests are good, but when you see girls in diaphanous draperies waltzing across the altar, doesn’t some little voice inside say, “somethin’ ain’t right about this”
A Prayer for Priests
O Jesus, Eternal Priest, keep all Thy priests within the shelter of Thy Sacred Heart, where none may harm them.
Keep unstained their anointed hands which daily touch Thy Sacred Body. Keep unsullied their lips purpled with Thy Precious Blood.
Keep pure and unearthly their hearts sealed with the sublime marks of Thy glorious priesthood.
Let Thy holy love surround them and shield them from the world’s contagion.
Bless their labors with abundant fruit, and may the souls to whom they have ministered be here below their joy and consolation, and in Heaven their beautiful and everlasting crown. Amen.
O, Mary, Queen of the Clergy, Mother of the Church, obtain for us a number of holy priests.
This may shed a bit more light on how Mahony’s wiggled out of testifying:

Keep repeating, repeating, repeating, and perhaps the message will get through! Anyone who thinks the opportunity to be married would have prevented these abuse cases is not paying attention.
You are absolutely correct. Permitting married men to become priests would not prevent homosexual priests from acting upon their proclivities. Moreover, many married people commit sins against chastity. The best way to safeguard clerical morals is for the Church to continue to insist upon perfect chastity for clerics, as it is doing. This would mean not ordaining homosexuals to the priesthood and not permitting homosexual clerics to engage in any sexual activity. However, I don’t think that it is necessary or desirable to expel men from the priesthood who have homosexual tendencies but who are not acting upon them.
Many dioceses and seminaries have not been infiltrated by the Lavender Mafia and it does a disservice to faithful bishops, priests, and seminarians to exaggerate the scope of this problem. Only a small percentage of priests are homosexuals. Only a small percentage of priests have been accused of sexually abusing minors. The idea that the priesthood has become a homosexual occupation, which is being advanced by people who favor the homosexual agenda as well as by those who fear it, insults and demoralizes the majority of priests, who are not homosexual and who have not abused anyone.
What a great relief that must have been to you to find out that this priest had broken his vows of chastity. Whew, as long as it was with a woman, that made it o.k.!
Celibacy is in no way to blame for the clerical sex abuse scandal. Celibacy does not tempt men to engage in sex acts with boys. Homosexual tendencies do. The Church will never permit priests to marry because it never permitted any man to marry after ordination. Moreover, given the scandalous problems with clerical morals that occurred during the Middle Ages before the Church stopped ordaining married men, it is unlikely that the Church would ever return to that practice. Finally, although the Church did ordain married men up until the eleventh century, it did not permit them to have conjugal relations after ordination. I somehow doubt that this is the kind of married priesthood that you would like the Church to have.
I think married priests in the western rite can only be found in the Anglican usage rite in the case of former Church of England churches if my memory serves me correct. Please correct me if I am wrong here too.
In one of the threads last week (I have no idea which one, there were so many!) someone reminded us all of Our Lady of Fatima’s prediction about the “errors that Russia would spread.” The major error was Communism and one of the stated goals of the Communist party was to infiltrate the Church with homosexuals in order to discredit it. The poster reminded us of the former Communist who wrote a book about it and described how they infiltrated all the seminaries back in the ‘50s. (I wish I could remember what thread it was on - maybe someone can link to it.)
