Cairo, Jul. 10, 2007 (CWNews.com) - An Egyptian newspaper has lashed out at the Vatican for its new doctrinal statement affirming that the Catholic Church is the institution founded by Jesus Christ.
An article in the English-language Egyptian newspaper, The Egyptian Mail, entitled "This Year's Target: Non-Catholics," said that the Vatican document released July 10 was an affront to non-Catholics. "Not content with having offended millions of the world's Muslims," the paper charged, "the Vatican strikes again, this time the sensibility of the followers of the Orthodox and Protestant churches."
The document issued by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith said that Orthodox churches should be treated by Catholics as sister-churches, since they have preserved apostolic succession and genuine sacraments. The Protestant denominations, having broken from apostolic succession and no longer having the Eucharist, are not churches in the proper sense, the document explained.
Having seen the rampant liberalism of some American “Christian” churches (including the one with a muslim preacher on the West Coast), there is reason to rebuke some churches. The followers are being led astray.
A rebuke of Islam would be more timely.
After reading your “about” page I thoroughly understand why you don’t see the controversy here. lol
Since I would be labled a Fundamentalist Troll I will let you remain confused. Being so sure you are correct makes you appear as though you might be arrogant...but I know that’s not the case at all. Your church doesn’t allow arrogance in it’s leadership or lay membership.
I am content to let the decision to the Lord, and I’m sure He’ll need some advice from us, huh? lol
Except for the Coptic Orthodox Church, which maintains both Apostolic Succession and the seven sacraments. It has been made clear that the Oriental Orthodox are excluded from the list of true churches.
"Not content with having offended millions of the world's Muslims," the paper charged, "the Vatican strikes again, this time the sensibility of the followers of the Orthodox and Protestant churches."
While attributed to the paper, this quote is actually form Coptic Bishop Morcos Aziz. Aziz also says, "words are worthless, I do not want to reopen old wounds and to speak about the "sins" of the catholic Church."
Coptic Bishop Abdel Massih Bassit is also quoted in the article saying, "The Vatican regularly offends millions of people in the world. I invite Pope Benedict XVI to wake up himself from the coma."
I suspect the Egyptian media will continue to play the two churches against each other for all it is worth. Their cold muzzie hearts have been warmed by this new document from the Pope.
The Copts have also been sadly pro-muzzie recently, and I’m not sure they reflect the attitude of other Orthodox Churches. I remember that both in Egypt and in Turkey they were very critical of the Pope after his comments about Islam last year.
It would seem a common hate has made strange bedfellows of the Copts and muzzies.
Could it be because the Copts are fighting for their very lives and they have to kiss up to the Muslims in order to survive?
