Since NYer speculated at a possible papal Tridentine Mass following the release of the Motu Proprio, I thought it would be interesting to read about how a Solemn Papal Mass used to entail. As the article notes, the Pope didn't always celebrate Mass this way.
We say the “Domine non sum dignus” three times before making our communion. We say it in the classic form, but in English, not Latin.
What’s up with the bread and wine tasters? That’s machiavellian. Who would poison the Precious Body & Blood. Oh, never mind. Maybe they ought to bring that back.
It makes me realize that the history of the Papal States is largely blacked out. What is the 20th of September? Why did they not sacrifice the mass for 11 years? Why and for how long was the Pope not allowed to leave the Vatican? You won’t see that on the History Channel.
