We say the “Domine non sum dignus” three times before making our communion. We say it in the classic form, but in English, not Latin.
What’s up with the bread and wine tasters? That’s machiavellian. Who would poison the Precious Body & Blood. Oh, never mind. Maybe they ought to bring that back.
It makes me realize that the history of the Papal States is largely blacked out. What is the 20th of September? Why did they not sacrifice the mass for 11 years? Why and for how long was the Pope not allowed to leave the Vatican? You won’t see that on the History Channel.
Well, the first time it took place, it was at the offertory, so it wasn't consecrated. The second time it took place, it was at the end of the Canon of the Mass. I don't know where someone would have the opportunity to poison the offerings between the Offertory and the end of the Canon.
**What is the 20th of September?**
It was on 20 September 1870, Tuesday at 9:30AM the Papal States came to an end.
