IT’S COMING - MOTU PROPRIO - 7 JULY
What Does The Prayer Really Say? ^ | 6/27/2007 | Fr. John Zuhlsdorf

Posted on 06/27/2007 10:50:27 AM PDT by GCC Catholic

On Wednesday afternoon the Secretary of State, Tarcisio Card. Bertone gave the Motu Proprio to 30 bishops from around the world on Wednesday afternoon in the Apostolic Palace. The bishops were explicitly chosen and invited for this. (I am guessing that they were heads of Bishops Conferences.) Pope Benedict XVI later came to the meeting. The document is three pages long, though what the format is in not revealed.

It is clear from the way this was done that the Holy Father wanted to make sure that bishops got this document in this way, rather than having to read about it in the paper. I assume that what will happen now is that these bishops, if they are heads of conferences, will return home and distribute the document to the bishop members of the conference.

The general publication is 7 July.

Many thanks to Kath.net

Any bets on the media translation? My guess is, “Vatican Returns to Dark Ages Mass,” or something like that.

I regret that Anheuser-Busch doesn't brew anything drinkable ... It would be most fitting to toast the MP (if, as or when) with a beverage brewed in MISSOURI.

My pastor took only a month to learn the TLM. He was on the rotation to say it at the one downtown parish where it is allowed. (He’s 40)

If this is true, we WILL have a TLM right here in Sterling Heights MI!
And it couldn’t come at a better time. The renovation of our Main just started last week. When I walked into the expanded hall, where Holy Mass is being celebrated until the Main is done, where we normally have two kneelers for Communion, there was a whole line!

I would not be surprised to see an Altar rail and no freestanding Altar when we walk into the new church!
WoooooHooooooo!

Father Z. from earlier this week:

What If The Latin Mass Is More Successful Than Anyone Expected?

Hmmmm…

I’ve heard that many "progressive" Catholics are planning preemptive strikes to counter the ever growing traditionalism that’s sweeping through The Church. Here’s some examples;

The Novus Ordo Society ~ Dedicated to keeping the Mass alive in the various languages that it’s celebrated in, such as English, Spanish, Esperanto, Mongolian, Tierra del Fuegan, Fortin, Indian Smoke Signals, Interpretive Dance, Goomba Brooklyn-Italiano Obscene Hand Gestures, Binary, Martian, etc. Originally named "Plures Voces", but changed name to current because someone realized that Plures Voces was in that ridiculous Latin.

The SSML; The Society of St. Martin Luther ~ "Telling The Pope To Go To Hell Since 1517". The SSML is a radical off-shoot of the SSHK, the Society of St. Hans Kung, which was a radical off-shoot of the SSVII, the Society of the Spirit of Vatican II. Membership in all three organizations is dwindling due to all their members are dying of old age.

Free-Thinking Single Catholics ~ A forum for the more liberally minded who are seeking either a guilt-free short term concubine-in-residence, or a long term straight-bi-gay-lesbian-transgendered-polygamous-incestuous-bestial-necrophiliac (any combination thereof) relationship. Day-Glo condoms, morning after pills, and penicillin booster shots provided free of charge to those who sign up for one year membership.

Latin Mass Watch ~ A Novus Ordo news portal that specializes in featuring various horror stories of overt Traditional Catholicism world-wide.

Lair of the Catholic Eco-Friendly Sissy Ticklefight Pooh Bear Cavepersons of Undetermined Gender ~ A quasi-serious weblog that gaily focuses on the glories of everything Novus Ordo. Special attention paid to true meaning of the Theology of Dandelions and Kitten Whiskers, and what it mean to everyone at Sts. Che and Fidel Catholic Community of Berkeley, California. Peace, out.

Rorate Caeli:

La Croix: Motu Proprio revealed to world’s Bishops
Isabelle de Gaulmyn, Rome correspondent of the French daily La Croix, the semi-official newspaper of the Church in France:

Excerpts:

The motu proprio on the Missal of Saint Pius V revealed to the Bishops

On Wednesday, June 27, a meeting in the Vatican of the representatives of episcopal conferences took place, to which Cardinal Bertone delivered the contents of the motu proprio aiming to liberalize the use of the Tridentine Missal.

On Wednesday, June 27, in the afternoon, Cardinals and Archbishops from different countries assembled around Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, Secretary of State, to take hold of the contents of the motu proprio aiming to liberalize the use of the missal in Tridentine rite, said “of Saint Pius V”.

“It is a kind of internal publication to the Church,” it is said in the Curia. The “external” publication, that is, the official one, should take place soon, by way of L’ Osservatore Romano, the daily edited by the Holy See. The text, written in Latin, will be accompanied by a letter of Benedict XVI, in several languages.

...

The motu proprio should predict safeguards to guarantee the last word to the bishop, in case of a disagreement between faithful and priests on this matter.

The motu proprio liberating the Tridentine Mass for the entire Catholic Church has been given to about 30 bishops from all over the world in the Sala Bologna of the Apostolic Palace by Vatican Secretary of State Tarcisio Cardinal Bertone

Vatican (kath.net/Die Welt/closedcafeteria.blogspot)

Die Welt report that the motu proprio liberating the Tridentine Mass for the entire Catholic Church has been given to about 30 bishops from all over the world in the Sala Bologna of the Apostolic Palace by Vatican Secretary of State Tarcisio Cardinal Bertone.

The bishops had been invited to Rome for that purpose. At the end of the meeting, in which the motu proprio was introduced together with a letter of explanation by Pope Benedict XVI, Pope Benedict met with the bishops. The document is about three pages long, the accompanying letter about four. From Germany, Cardinal Lehmann had been invited. The circumstances of the procedure make clear that the Pope was very interested to personally inform the bishops, in collegial manner, of the content rather than from the media. The publication of both documents will take place on July 7th. It emphasizes the unity of the Roman Rite which will consist of an ordinary and an extraordinary form which are supposed to inspire each other. The ordinary/regular form will continue to be the new rite of 1969. The extraordinary form will be the Missal of Bl. John XXIII. of 1962.

We await confirmation from other sources; we keep our caveat regarding the specific date of release until there is official confirmation of it (a care this weblog has kept, avoiding to grasp at all possible dates) and note the oddity that the very name of the document still seems to be ignored, even though dozens of bishops have supposedly seen it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saints_Cyril_and_Methodius

Cyril and Methodius were two Byzantine Greek brothers born in Thessaloniki in the 9th century, who became missionaries of Christianity in Khazaria and Great Moravia. They are credited with devising and spreading the Glagolitic alphabet, which was used for Slavonic manuscripts before the development of the Cyrillic, the alphabet derived from Glagolitic, that, with small modifications, is still used in a number of Slavic languages. After their death their pupils became missionaries among other Slavic peoples. Both brothers were glorified in Eastern Orthodoxy as “equal-to-apostles” and were canonized by the Roman Catholic Church. They became the patron saints of Europe in 1980.[1]

Le Croix confirms

CATEGORY: SESSIUNCULUM — Fr. John Zuhlsdorf @ 2:09 pm

The French paper Le Croix confirms with a longer article what Kath.net and Die Welt reported.

Highlights of new items:

1)  It says that the bishops were representatives of bishops conferences.
2)  After the plenary meeting ofthe Pont. Comm. Eccesia Dei security on the MP was tightened.
3)  Not only some French bishops but also some American bishops had complained to the Holy See about this.
4)  Bishops were concerned about losing some of their authority to oversee the liturgy.
5)  The MP should have some way to protect the bishop’s rights in disputes.

The rest rehashes some old issues, such as whether some Jews may be upset by "anti-semitic" prayers, etc.  Old stories.
