Is Mormonism Christian?

Is Mormonism Christian? This may seem like a puzzling question to many Mormons as well as to some Christians. Mormons will note that they include the Bible among the four books which they recognize as Scripture, and that belief in Jesus Christ is central to their faith, as evidenced by their official name, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Furthermore, many Christians have heard the Mormon Tabernacle Choir sing Christian hymns and are favorably impressed with the Mormon commitment to high moral standards and strong families. Doesnt it follow that Mormonism is Christian?

nice.
When the Brigham Young quotes come out, the LDS run for cover.
I wish I had a dollar for the number of times this issue has come up and been answered here on Free Republic.
Please see my Posts 126 and 131.
You ought to know better by now!!
The prophets and leaders of the LDS are like Sen. John Kerry...
"He voted for the war before he voted against it" type of thing.
We believe that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints possesses that authority.
Hence, a person can be a Christian, believing in Jesus Christ, and yet still be in need of baptism.
Therefore, since you believe that ONLY the LDS organization has the 'authority', only being an LDS member INSURES that you'll get the 'needed' baptism.
Thus since NONE of the other 'churches' have the 'authority', you are still lost, for no matter WHAT you 'believe', you've got to do the things that the LDS organization tells you to do.
Did I get that right?
I'd say it's headquarters are in my heart!
Then what does be baptised getcha??
No; he's not.
He's a FALLEN ANGEL.
Hey!>
Are you trying to box them in? ;^)
I guess an LDS member would be able to point out these Scriptures for the searching-impairred.
HMmmm...
Obviously, most of the voters!
Here's one. You posted the following:
"I know just as well what to teach this people and just what to say to them and what to do in order to bring them into the celestial kingdom, as I know the road to my office. It is just as plain and easy. The Lord is in our midst. He teaches the people continually. I have never yet preached a sermon and sent it out to the children of men, that they may not call Scripture. Let me have the privilege of correcting a sermon, and it is as good Scripture as they deserve" (Journal of Discourses 13:95).Then you said, Do you agree with Brigham Young that everyone of his sermons was Scripture?
You have (mis)interpreted what Brigham Young said. Note the bolded part of the statement. He did not claim that everything he said was automatically scripture. He said that a sermon, once "corrected" and sent out by him, was as good as scripture.
And that is indeed the procedure used in the LDS Church. We do not take every utterance attributed to our leaders as scripture. Only those that have been approved by the First Presidency and the Twelve, and formally presented to the Church, are considered binding on the Church.
Incidentally, the Journal of Discourses was never approved by the First Presidency or presented by them to the Church. It was originally a private publishing venture; the discourses were not checked for accuracy by the speakers. We consider the JD to be interesting and useful, but we do not treat it as scripture.
For that's the only way you can totally ignore anything that's printed and blindly follow along with the LDS organization agenda.
Good luck!! ;^)
No; he's not. He's a FALLEN ANGEL.
At last we find something we can agree on.
I will quit now, while we are ahead. Have a good weekend.
Sure you did!!!
Hebrews 7:9-10
9. One might even say that Levi, who collects the tenth, paid the tenth through Abraham,
10. because when Melchizedek met Abraham, Levi was still in the body of his ancestor.
Why did you bold the quote mid-sentence, logophile?
The entire sentence says:
"I have never yet preached a sermon and sent it out to the children of men, that they may not call Scripture."
Is there some part of never that I am missing here.
...talk about interpretting and misquoting!
And I thought that you were gone for the weekend!
Is this statement SCRIPTURE?
spin, spin, spin...
