If you are a Catholic, partaking of the Sacrament of Reconciliation will be a real blessing to you too. Here are the words the priest says, letting the pentitent know that
God IS forgiving his or her sins.
1449 The formula of absolution used in the Latin Church expresses the essential elements of this sacrament: the Father of mercies is the source of all forgiveness. He effects the reconciliation of sinners through the Passover of his Son and the gift of his Spirit, through the prayer and ministry of the Church:
- God, the Father of mercies,
through the death and the resurrection of his Son has reconciled the world to himself and sent the Holy Spirit among us for the forgiveness of sins; through the ministry of the Church may God give you pardon and peace, and I absolve you from your sins in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. |

(Amnesty is when you allow them to return to their country of origin without prosecution.)

I’m not a Catholic, I am a Presbyterian, but thank you. I am not one of those Protestants who resents the Catholic church; in fact, I have found that the Catholics I have interacted with are invariably true disciples of Christ who have given their lives to our Lord and walked a very disciplined spiritual road. In fact, I can not help but love all of those who love the Lord truly, whatever their denomination.
