Do any of your churches have the "Operation Rice Bowl" program?
On the Sunday after Ash Wednesday he was leading the congregation in the Pre Gospel hymn and in his enthusiasm he had included the phrase "Alelulia" in the Bulletin. Before he could vocalize that part of the song the Assistant Minister rushed to his side and asked him not to proceed! Pastor apologized and proceeded sans Alelulia.
That Sunday was church council and also payday for Pastor, Music Director and Secretary. I'm the Church treasurer and had handed out the paychecks to everyone except Pastor since I expected to see him at Council.
I decided to have alittle fun since the first order of business was a review of Roberts Rules of Order because our meetings had been "getting longer!"
I set up my motion with a second and the Council President's support. Pastor came and and we proceeded.
After the discussion of Roberts Rules my Treasurer's report came to the floor. I stated that I had a motion to make and stated, "I make a motion that Pastor be docked one paycheck due to his Lenten Oops." The motion was seconded and the Council President asked for any discussion. Not hearing any, (everyone was in on this), The Council President said, "All in favor say ... and the Council on cue screamed "Alelulia!"
Pastor looked at me and said, "You put them up to this!"
Who Me??? as I handed him his paycheck. Score one for Young Werther!
