A New York crisis pregnancy center has begun offering free sonograms in specially equipped vans parked in front of South Bronx abortion centers. Frontline Pregnancy Director Chris Slattery said, "We want them to see the baby, hear the heartbeat and think seriously about what they're doing." Joan Malin, president of Planned Parenthood of New York City, is upset by the tactic and said, "Our clients have gotten confused, gone there first and come out very, very upset."

This is actually the whole article. The more upset the aborionists and their intended victims, the better the tactic. Much better than taking the law into one's own hands. This tactic can be successful nationwide if the funding is forthcoming.
I'm not surprised. My wife just had an ultrasound performed at 11 weeks. She could hear the heartbeat, and even though it's only the size of a plum it's plainly obvious from the picture that it's a human child.
Congratulations!
Thanks! We're pretty excited. And although we've always been pro-life, this certainly brings clarity to the issue.
As science makes greater strides towards understanding fetal development, it's going to be harder & harder for pro-abortion advocates to convince people that they're not killing a human being.
South Carolina is passing legislation which requires women seeking an abortion to first have a sonogram. A large proportion of them change their minds and I've said for years around here that it is technology that will change the hearts and minds of people, not the federal goverment or some Supreme Court judge.
In an ethics class I was quick to take the negative in a debate on the proposition that "If DNA testing ever proves that a baby will be a murderer, that child should be aborted." What struck me in analyzing the issue was that the more you assume you know about the baby, the less justifiable killing it can be.The mother's flesh hides the obvious human child within, and a sonogram sees through that rather clearly. And if you had a powerful test of DNA you might know some negative stuff - but you also are faced with the reality of the humanity of the person you are judging.

The contributing male should also take notice.
My son and daughter in law are at about the same stage and are posting the sonograms on the internet. Its a real baby to them. She's a lib, but I'll bet she won't forget these wonderful images.
Perhaps it will even change her views, at least on abortion. I think in particular the new 4D technology will prove to be an invaluable tool in proving that life begins at conception.

When my daughter found out she was pregnant her boyfriend's father had told him to tell her to have an abortion. So she went online to find out more about it and was horrified at the photos she saw. In addition, she asked a friend who had had an abortion about it. The poor girl said that she can't stand to go to baby showers, be around babies or pregnant women, and can't stand the sound of a vaccuum cleaner due to the post-traumatic stress that she now suffers from. My daughter also read on the internet about the dangerous complications that can happen with abortion.
She chose to have the baby and keep it. Her boyfriend dropped out of college in his senior year to support her and the baby, but he seems happy to do it because he loves my daughter and their daughter very much. He is the most loving and devoted family man you ever saw and my granddaughter is beautiful. The strange thing is that my daughter and her boyfriend are both very liberal, but are both disgusted by the idea of abortion after learning about it on the internet. I wish they'd get married but I guess they're too liberal for that.

My children were born before the advent of ultrasound. No regrets...we all live with what's available at any given time.
When is the heartbeat of an unborn child detectable? I haven't researched this.
For those who have decided to have an abortion in, say the first five to nine weeks of pregnance, would an ultrasound pick up the baby's heartbeat that early on?
If not, the woman might "convince" herself that this embryo is really not a human being.
Planned Parenthood, IMO, would encourage her belief.
For what it's worth, I'm behind you 100%. Your daughter learned something very important from the sad experience of her friend.
There is every reason to think that she and the young man will continue to grow in wisdom. That is, make a life together with their daughter and have more children.
Yes, and they are up-in-arms about it! Not only will their socialist, left-wing propaganda be flushed down the drain; so will their immoral means of income.
I believe it can be detected by ultrasound at 6 weeks. In my wife's case they tried at 11 weeks using a doppler but couldn't get it, and then resorted to the ultrasound.
