Instead of refusing them Communion, maybe the Church should refuse to bury them with a Catholic funeral.

As a faithful Christian that might be meaningful to you, but to a secular humanist it would mean: "Great - no consequences for my behavior in this life. In the hereafter, who knows? Maybe God is a liberal woman!" I exaggerate, but only slightly.

Oh no. You don't understand. These nominally Catholic politicos want a LEGACY! They want to go out with a grand funeral Mass, with the incense and choir and all the bells and whistles; maybe even a Bishop presiding.

If it is made clear to them they will NEVER get that, it might make them think twice. One never knows, does one. It would certainly get them in a place they care about very much; their VANITY, if not their immortal souls.
