The Iraqi ambassador to the Vatican has acknowledged the increasing violence in his country, but issued a plea for international support to promote stability. Christians are fearing for their lives like other minorities trapped in this policy of ethnic cleansing, he said.

That's awful. Someone should invade and occupy this country.
It's not "Ethnic Cleansing" it's "muslim genocide"
None of this is part of the Church's teachings.
Like it or not, the Chaldean Catholics were among Saddam's biggest supporters. He actually gave the Church a lot of money, and Iraq was one of the few places in the Arab world where the government paid to build churches.
The attacks against the Christians is revenge for having supported Saddam to a certain degree. Tariq Aziz is case in point because he's a Catholic, or at least, was a Catholic.
