You've GOT to be kidding me.
There is not a single Biblical reference to Mary's physical difficulty or a lack of it when giving birth to Jesus. It's the height of arrogance for anyone -- be s/he Catholic, Protestant, or whatever -- to claim knowledge of "the truth" of Christ's birth.
Fr. Geiger quoted the fourth century St. Augustine on the matter saying. "That same power which brought the body of the young man through closed doors, brought the body of the infant forth from the inviolate womb of the mother."
Say whaaaat? When did Jesus go "through closed doors"? Are we talking about the Christ, or Casper the Friendly Ghost?
FWIW: Laura Ingraham, as open and devout a Catholic as exists in daily media, saw The Nativity Story over the weekend and enthusiastically recommended it on this morning's show.

As much as often admire the zealous nature of converts to Catholicism, I'll take Fr. Geiger's word over hers any day.
John 20:19: Now when it was late the same day, the first of the week, and the doors were shut, where the disciples were gathered together, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst and said to them: Peace be to you.
Agreed. I saw it with my daughter. If your familiar with the biblical accounts, there is no surprise in the movie, but it is a reminder of why he came, and we all need constant reminders of this.
Anyone, ANYONE, who finds nit picky things to criticize about the movie has missed the point completely.
Why? Because no one can possibly know more than you think can be known by a fellow human being?

That says it all. Is this critique based on a Mary that has been created through tradition or actual Scripture?
BTW, I really liked the movie and thought they did a good job, especially with the portrayal of Mary. The "Mary" in pictures and on Christmas cards is more unbelievable to me than this young Mary.
Mary had no pain, because she did not have original sin like the rest of us.
That same phrase about his birth blew my mind too. Where did THAT come from? (that is wasn't your usual, run of the mill birth). That's a new one on me!
As for Hollywood coming up with an accurate account of Jesus' life.....it ain't gonna happen.
How do you think Jesus came out of the tomb?
Point of Fact, not Criticism: Catholic teachings declare that Mary, Mother of Jesus, remained a virgin after His birth and that there was never any subsequent sexual relations between her and Joseph. However, Mary and Joseph were Jews - so never having sex or any more children after Jesus would be counter to what a Jewish marriage required. Further, it is not even Biblical. Joseph was told by God's messenger not to have relations with Mary until after Jesus was born - Matthew-ch.1-v.25 "He knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son." - Not ONLY Son, but firstborn Son. The Apostles often referred to Jesus' brothers and sister, as distinguished from cousins and followers. Just pointing out the incongruities here....no offense.....
