And oh so interesting that the Pope gets threatened with death for comments about islam and American catholics act like its not really important.Who acted like it wasn't important? Just because we didn't take to the streets in protest doesn't mean it didn't concern us. It is important, but we know that we can't control what some religious zealot will do. All we can do is pray that Benedict will be protected from such people.

You missed the point. We voted like it wasn't important. If Catholics abandoned the republican party, in effect they put other things higher in importance than the war against islam which Pope Benedict so courageously exposed with his comments. Since giving the appeasement party control of congress was the result of their actions, obviously death fatwas on the Pope, and murder of nuns and desecration of churches just didn't have enough impact for them to understand that President Bush got this one right. Or maybe Catholics blame Bush for creating the terrorists and we should withdraw and turn the other cheek.
