The Reverend Rob Schenck, president of the Evangelical dominated National Clergy Council in Washington, DC, and chairman of the Committee on Church and Society for the Evangelical Church Alliance, America's oldest association of Evangelical clergy, released this statement today on the resignation of the Reverend Ted Haggard from the presidency of the National Association of Evangelicals:
"Ted Haggard has denied the allegations made against him. So far, there is only one accuser. The Bible says no man is to be condemned on the testimony of a single accuser. We must prayerfully wait out the investigative process and continue to judge by the evidence.
"Should this accusation prove true, it will only be another in a long history of human failure. The Bible says if we say we have no sin, we lie and the truth is not in us. Evangelical Christianity does not rest on frail and sinful human beings, but on a just and righteous God in who 'changes not.
"We should pray for Ted Haggard, his family and church and for his accuser that the truth be made known, repentance follows and restoration for all who may be affected."
Rev. Schenck is traveling to Maine today and is not available for comment until Monday morning, November 6.
A further statement on the nature of the case will be issued by the Reverend Dr. Charles Nestor, senior fellow for public policy for the National Clergy Council. Dr. Nestor is available for interviews through the National Clergy Council office. Contact Dane Rose of National Clergy Council at 202-546-8329, ext 106.
It is the "as if it never happened" part that I disagree with. Accepting just consequences is part of repentance. And his concern for the people of that church should be great enough to show a continued concern for his own extreme weakness. The goal should be godly restoration of the man to fellowship with the church but not to lead it. He has done harm to the witness of that church and the cause of the gospel. I'm not convinced he takes that seriously. At this point it's not about his repenting. It's about his getting caught.
No further than you think God should go in forgiving us.
I'm not advocating no forgiveness. I'm just advocating biblical Christianity.
It cannot be your only doctrine if you want to call it biblical Christianity. But you could call it anarchy. Or some synonyms: chaos, confusion, disorder, disorganization, disregard, hostility, mob rule, nihilism, nongovernment, rebellion, revolution, riot, turmoil....it will always lead to debauchery.
lol Doesn't he look just like a parody of a game show host?
btw, I never heard of Haggard before today. So many hypocrites, so little time!
Sad.
I wonder...prostitution is not legal in Colorado. Nor is the sale of meth. Shouldn't that guy be arrested along with "Art."
One would think...... but then he's a "victim"..along with "Art".
Yes I remember how so many defended him years ago... well who would have thunk it!
Christianiy consists of several virtues. I was only talking about the most unpopular one: forgiveness.
You heard of Jesus Camp

And you'll note that this is a PROTESTANT minister at a "BIBLE" "church" - albeit a shrine to the almighty dollar and the ego of the "pastor."
PROTESTANT
PROTESTANT
PROTESTANT
Such an accurate summation of the CULT of these "Bible" "churches.."
Nor is he being accused of being a PEDOPHILE, while we're at it. Haggard isn't accused of trading drugs for sex with underage altar boys, nor is he being shuffled from "protestant" congregation to congregation by his superiors. That's a distinction that should be noted as well.
He's a PROTESTANT...that is, he's not Catholic or Orthodox.
In case that point is lost on the PROTESTANTS of this forum. You are a PROTESTANT if you're a Baptist, Methodist, Episcopalian or even a member of the local snake handling shrine.
And you can throw into this anyone who considers him/herself a Presby, a Lutheran or any member of what members call a "reformed" "church."
"Protestantism is one of three main groups currently within Christianity. The term "Protestant" represents a diverse range of perspectives, denominations, individuals, and related organizations. While no particular belief or practice can be said to define this branch of Christianity (indeed, its most commonly given definition is merely "any Christian denomination which is not Roman Catholic or Orthodox Christian"), those denominations considered to be well within the realm of Protestantism all have firm roots in the Protestant Reformation initiated by Martin Luther's 95 Theses during the sixteenth century."
What about the Mormons? Are they Protestant, too? How about the Coptics?
