What a wonderful testimony!
I don't think there is a food fight here. Everyone seems to be discussing this in a civil manner.
Why be negative about those of other faiths?
**Better that there be abortions than to cooperate with those diabolical Romanists!**
What are you trying to say here. Seems quite hateful toward Catholics to me.
Why imply I was saying there was something negative about those of other faiths, Salvation? I do want to know.
I meant that this is going to be rough and tumble.
God bless you, fellow sinner.
Stipulate further that I am not too bright. To whom shall I turn so that I may be assured that I am following Jesus correctly and that my thinking is not wrong? I mean, of course, other than you, the writer, and the Boss Berean fellow? And since I don't know where you or they are or how to turn to them and am probably not smart enough to understand the Gospel, what will become of not me but people who might be like me?
My soul, Like Hahn's. is presumably lost, because I am a relieved convert to the RC Church. But there may be others out there who have not damned themselves and who would like to love the Lord in a manner acceptable to Him, but don't know how. What of them? To whom can they turn? No church is safe. No preacher or teacher is safe Evidently since I don't believe properly I am so far from being the writer's brother in Christ that he feels free to unleash a ferocious and tendentious rant on me (since I too was a protestant clergyman and a seminary graduate -- which, God knows, does not require much intelligence)), so he must think it legitimate to judge me because I don't think properly -- it's a work I clearly have done badly. But these others, how can they be as assured of their salvation as the writer professes himself to be of Hahn's (and my) damnation?
Sounds like the gates of hell have been doing right much prevailing around here, and the news that what Jesus really said was NOT, "Lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world," but "Lo, I'm outta here, and you all are on your own," is troublesome. Many are called, but evidently only the Berean gang and those who believe properly are saved. Or so the article seems to say.
That may be good news to you all. Seems kind of iffy to me.
He has got some serious issues that have little if anything to do with Scott Hahn.
He needs to take a Valium and get over his hate.
This is a quote from the article...
"Some of the more conservative churches have been led astray by Reconstructionism, by religiously cooperative efforts in the anti-abortion movement"
**Better that there be abortions than to cooperate with those diabolical Romanists!**
This is a quote from irishjuggler, which I believe is dripping in sarcasm.
I have been told by some Christians that they will not cooperate with certain Crisis Pregnancy Centers because Catholics work there and are on the Board of Directors. Appparently they would rather have more babies murdered than associate with Catholics. Which is what irish was getting at....I do believe.
. . . clearly still suffering pangs of guilt, and projecting that for all it's worth.

Very sad. If only they could realize we are all voting and working for Life!
I thought your words about food fight seemed negative.
Why even bring up the idea of a brawl was what I was getting at.
Hahn's writing led me to do my own investigation, and I came to the conclusion that Rome was where I belonged. I have been overjoyed at my deepening relationship with Jesus through my participation in the Church.
I understand the theological objections to the Catholic Church by some Protestant denominations. I simply believe in my heart that they are misguided. It is not my place to judge other Churches, and I won't. However, it seems to me that attacks like this one do not call people to Christ.
This thread is a classic example of why I rarely post here anymore. There is no socially redeeming value to this other than to start a p1ssing contest.
Thanks, Alex, for helping confirm my decision to decrease my participation on this site...

You are right, I guess the negativism of the "FOOD FIGHT!!!" quip was beyond me, as was the negativism that others of other faiths might find in that statement. I was not being sensitive enough.
To all Roman Catholics, Reformed Protestants, Mainline Protestants, JW, Mormons, Buddhists, Confucianists, Taoists, Pagans, Wiccans, and any other faiths that might find the term "FOOD FIGHT!!!" something that causes you to think negative thoughts, MEA CULPA.
I just hope it wasn't because I was the one that said it.
/satire off/
We had the pleasure of hearing Scott Hahn speak at a conference in Minnesota a few years ago. One of the MC's said, "Listening to Scott Hahn speak is like getting a drink of water from a fire hydrant!" Hahn's enthusiasm for his favorite subject, Holy Mother Church, is more than obvious.
A little historical perspective: a hundred years ago many in the West died before the age of 40. Most men went to work at age 14 and married when they were old enough to support a wife. Even those who lived long lives usually had some malady. The revolution in human expectations of health caused by the medical "miracles' of the last century and a half has ended with the delusion that death itself can be conquered.
Not fifty years ago, even liberal Protestants thought this way. Four hundred years of mutual hostility can raise thick walls. You Greeks, of course, are a mystery to all Latins, Catholic or Protestant.
Didn't think I'd be doing this on FR:
I can't speak definitively for what it was when Scott Hahn was here, but I certainly know what Grove City College is not now:
Thomistic
Theologically Liberal
Nominally Protestant
The theology professors now (and from all I can tell then as well) are thoroughly Calvinist.
(For what it's worth, I'm writing this from a classroom building AT Grove City College)
"You Greeks, of course, are a mystery to all Latins, Catholic or Protestant."
For the time being, this is probably a good thing! :)
