Great news CATEGORY: SESSIUNCULUM Fr. John Zuhlsdorf @ 11:00 am
Folks, I received very good news today. Three sources confirmed something for me of great importance and a matter of consolation. At the moment, it is best not to publish it or talk too much about it, until it is brought to light by the proper authority.
Nevertheless, I would kindly ask readers of WDTPRS in print and in this blog general to say in advance a prayer of thanksgiving to God. Whenever we have petitions, it is good to add a prayer of thanks together with the petition.
So, I ask you kindly to say a prayer of thanks for something in particular, even if you dont know yet what it is. I am really not trying to be cageywith this. Sometimes people who run blogs or write article rush to publicize soemthing before its times and, in doing so, create unnecessary complications. Just say a prayer of praise to God, for this and other blessings in your lives.
We praise Thee, O God: we acknowledge Thee to be the Lord. All the earth doth worship Thee: the Father everlasting.
To Thee all Angels cry aloud: the heavens and all the powers therein. To Thee Cherubin and Seraphin: continually do cry, Holy, Holy, Holy: Lord God of Sabaoth; Heaven and earth are full of the Majesty: of Thy glory.
The glorious company of the Apostles: praise Thee. The goodly fellowship of the Prophets: praise Thee. The noble army of Martyrs: praise Thee.
The holy Church throughout all the world: doth acknowledge Thee; The Father: of an infinite majesty; Thine honourable, true: and only Son; Also the Holy Ghost: the Comforter.
Thou art the King of glory: O Christ. Thou art the everlasting Son: of the Father.
When thou tookest upon Thee to deliver man Thou didst not abhor the Virgins womb.
When Thou hadst overcome the sharpness of death: Thou didst open the kingdom of heaven to all believers.
Thou sittest at the right hand of God: in the glory of the Father.
We believe that Thou shalt come: to be our Judge.
We therefore pray Thee, help Thy servants: whom Thou hast redeemed with Thy precious blood.
Make them to be numbered with Thy Saints: in glory everlasting.
O Lord, save Thy people: and bless Thine heritage. Govern them: and lift them up for ever.
Day by day: we magnify Thee; And we worship Thy Name: ever world without end.
Vouchsafe, O Lord: to keep us this day without sin. O Lord, have mercy upon us: have mercy upon us.
O Lord, let Thy mercy lighten upon us: as our trust is in Thee. O Lord, in Thee have I trusted: let me never be confounded.
I saw this posted today, but I can't get the link in Fr. Zuhlsdorf's comments to his post to work. I get a server error. In any case, the Latin Mass at St. Peter's is the Pauline Mass said in Latin. It refers to saying it in Latin instead of Italian. It is not referring to the Tridentine yet.
Check the Amy Wellborn blog for today as she recounts how Latin newscasts are cropping up everywhere--even in Finland! Her post is called All Latin, All the Time.

Well we already have a Latin NO on Wednesday mornings, so it's not as heart stopping!
It is not official yet but once it is a consecration will be made at the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington DC on 11-11-06 at noon by the Pro Nuncio in union with the Bishops of the United States. This consecration prayer was read on our little radio program and if I remember right it is consecrating America to The Immaculate Conception and the Sorrowful Heart of Our Lady. There is more to this:)
Praise to the Sacred Heart and Mary Most Holy!
Looks like it is, or close to it, and therefore also from the Anglican Usage liturgy.
We chant it this way in Anglican Chant at Our Lady of Walsingham.
Forgive me for laughing, but this reminds me of people who rush into a room saying "I have AWESOME news!", everybody gets excited and then they say "but I can't tell you," LOL, and everybody goes nuts :-)
Sorry :-)
On a serious note, I've been thinking the upcoming traditional Feast of Christ the King (Sunday) would be a lovely time to reaffirm the Tridentine.
Maeve, I saw your mom's reply on Father's blog.
To contextualize the French bishops' response, I offer this quote from George Weigel's interview with Yale Prof. George Lindbeck, who was a (Lutheran) Protestant observer at the Council:
"Weigel: So in that specific French sense, the pre- conciliar conflict goes back even further than the Modernist crisis, and reflects the fault line that runs through French society from 1789 on?
Lindbeck: I always found it desirable at any dinner party to find out where people stood on the Revolution before getting into any other discussion."
Much else of interest is in this interview which Mr. Weigel did for First Things in 1994, and online at the FT site.
The Pauline mass is not the same as Vatican II, merely what was thought at the time to be an implementation of the Council's document on reform of the liturgy. It may not be the only way to implement the reform called by the Council, which might be able to be done in a way that preserves more of the traditional rite. I don't think a universal indult would necessarily be contrary to Vatican II. And what about being loyal to Catholic liturgical tradition? The Church did not start with Vatican II, nor did Vatican II establish a new religion. So much of the glorious tradition was thrown out in the name of Vatican II, and now we wonder why the faith is not being adequately passed on to succeeding generations. An option of the two authentic rites would keep us more in touch with our liturgical tradition.
The adoption of a policy allowing free use of either the Tridentine liturgy or the post-conciliar Novus Ordo, Infocatho said, would divide the Church, because "Eucharistic bi-ritualism in the Latin Catholic Church contradicts what the Eucharist signifies."
Not true. There have always been multiple rites in the Church. Even within the West, the Tridentine reform itself allowed ancient longstanding rites such as the Milanese or the Mozarabic rite to remain. I think it will help the Church to have an option of the Tridentine rite and a Novus Ordo rite, itself reformed to reflect more closely the concerns of the Council fathers.
Frank, you will let us know when this all gets published, won't you?
Canticle | Te Deum |
---|---|
God, we praise you; Lord, we proclaim you! You, the Father, the eternal all the earth venerates you. All the angels, all the heavens, every power The cherubim, the seraphim unceasingly, they cry: Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God of Hosts: heaven and earth are full of the majesty of your glory! The glorious choir of Apostles The noble ranks of prophets The shining army of martyrs all praise you. Throughout the world your holy Church proclaims you. Father of immeasurable majesty, True Son, only-begotten, worthy of worship, Holy Spirit, our Advocate. You, Christ: You are the king of glory. You are the Fathers eternal Son. You, to free mankind, did not disdain a Virgins womb. You defeated the sharp spear of Death, and opened the kingdom of heaven to those who believe in you. You sit at Gods right hand, in the glory of the Father. You will come, so we believe, as our Judge. And so we ask of you: give help to your servants, whom you set free at the price of your precious blood. Number them among your chosen ones in eternal glory. Bring your people to safety, Lord, and bless those who are your inheritance. Rule them and lift them high for ever. Day by day we bless you, Lord: we praise you for ever and for ever. Of your goodness, Lord, keep us without sin for today. Have mercy on us, Lord, have mercy on us. Let your pity, Lord, be upon us, as much as we trust in you. In you, Lord, I trust: let me never be put to shame. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. |
You know I don't approve of gossip, Frank.
Greetings to your mother Siobhan from Virginia, Maeve!
With much gratitude for Your gifts, O Lord!
