The expression "poop deck" comes from "pupi deck." Pupi were small Roman idols, household gods, and were given a special place on ships of the Roman era.

Please don't be offended by Pyro's plea for unity; he was definitely not referring to all non-Catholics. It's just that there are a handful of anti-Catholic zealots who love to jump on any thread that references the pope and proceed to trash our beliefs.
As others have stated, all Christians and Jews must be united in this fight against this evil.

I have a few theological differences with Catholic teaching, myself, but I've also found the last three or four popes to be reasonably decent people, despite those differences. (I'm not old enough to remember back any farther than that.) In this particular instance, it again appears to me that Benedict XVI is another of those basically decent people, and I don't see that he's wrong in this case, either. He is in my prayers for the wisdom and courage to do what is right, and for safety and protection here on earth if that is what the Lord wishes for him. So are all who follow him. I'm also praying that all the other leaders of the world will follow his example in this. Good luck, and God Bless!
