Plan B... What Next?
Episcoblog ^ | 8/25/20 | Bp. Leo Michael

During a pilgrimage to Rome in 2001, I accompanied a group of families as their chaplain. At the Fumicino airport, all eyes were on the children. One of the parents in the group remarked: "Yes, they would like to look at and admire children but not carry them" Thanks be to God that our moms carried us and here we are.

Pundits and experts argue in favor of freedom in promoting this "Plan B" pill, whose impact will be certainly detrimental to the life within the womb and finally there it is available over the counter. Pity those pharmacists who are coerced to sell them much against their will!

Is it a reflection of promiscuity or loose morals that has crept into our contemporary society. It makes one wonder. Already it has been a herculean task for parents to fight the media from the toll it has had on the morale of teenagers. Now Morning After Pill is the lethal weapon. Who knows who all will use it! But that it will turn the womb into tomb cannot be ruled out.

If all arguments against this morning after pill fail, this story of an agonising parent should be a clarion call to all the advocates of MAP and the future users of this human killer called MAP.

Whoever the advocates may be, teenagers need to be aware that "MAP" is not going to guarantee the safe passage for promiscuity. It's time that we listen to the wisdom of our predecessors that "sex within marriage alone is sacred". Anything else annihilates the very intent of the Creator.

Now that "MAP" is over the counter stuff, maybe they will pave way to a painless infanticide - a silent holocaust. If those who got pregnant would only approach a CRISIS PREGNANCY CENTER and see the "life within", perhaps that would change their attitude instead of depending on a quick fix that gives one the comfort and confidence of being "safe": safe from what? Good to ponder.

Can we be at least aware that if our mothers had attempted abortion, all of us would not be alive on this planet earth. May God protect the wombs much against the will of those are out to destroy what the wombs treasure.

I guess a lot of people don't know that legal age for sex is not uniformly 18 in all states.

No, it's not good enough. I know you don't have any kids, but I do. Thank God, they are past the age of 18 now and I don't have to worry about them getting ahold of abortifactant drugs black market.

You also seem to think that just because this is "legal" in some states, we ought to just encourage pre-marital sex among teenagers. Oh brother, talk about moral equivalence!

I think nothing of the sort. Who are you to say what I think?

Come to think of it... if that post doesn't meet the definition of arrogance I don't know what would.

What the HECK do you expect me to think after you said that people should be worried about "more important" things than teenagers getting this drug on the black market? Don't act innocent.

Obtaining the Plan B pill by teenage girls under 18, though legally married, is more important to you than murder, rape, robbery, and burglary?

As a Catholic, my dear, Plan B, is as important as murder because it prevents a life from being conceived as it works in the same manner as an abortifactant. Next question.

also should have said not only prevents a life from being conceived, but from being implanted once conceived.

Well the manufacturer of the drug doesn't even know if that's true, so how can the Catholic Church?

Not true.

From the manufacturer's website and from a previous post on FR:

Plan B® works like a regular birth control pill. It prevents pregnancy mainly by stopping the release of an egg from the ovary, and may also prevent the fertilization of an egg (the uniting of sperm with the egg). Plan B® may also work by preventing it from attaching to the uterus (womb). It is important to know that Plan B® will not affect a fertilized egg already attached to the uterus; it will not affect an existing pregnancy.

Yeah it says "may". That doesn't mean it does.

Again, if it isn't the height of arrogance for you to state something as a Catholic, that may or may not be the case, but you insisting it does.

Please, you have to know as well as I do that when it says that it may, that means it CAN happen.

Again, if it isn't the height of arrogance for you to state something as a Catholic, that may or may not be the case, but you insisting it does.

I'm telling you how I feel as a Catholic. If you want to think that just because I feel that taking innocent life is akin to murder is arrogant that is YOUR problem.

Again, the manufacturer of the Plan B pill has said they don't have the science to back up the claim you all are making.

You are twisting the manufacturers statement. The FDA also states "if fertilization does occur, Plan B may prevent a fertilized egg from attaching to the womb (implantation)."

"You are twisting the manufacturers statement."

You are adjudging someone as committing murder based on "may" and "if"?

So what do you suggest we do? Close our eyes, throw up our hands and ignore the FACTS? Facts are that there is a very real chance that conceptions occur on this drug and that implantations are prevented.
