Anglican Media Melbourne ^

Posted on 07/29/2006 7:36:13 PM PDT by Lee N. Field

Leon Lamb Morris was perhaps Australia’s most prolific biblical and theological author. He wrote over fifty books of theology and biblical commentary which have sold nearly two million copies worldwide and been translated into many languages. This is an astonishing output for an Australian writing technical or academic books. He was well-known throughout the Christian world as a careful, conservative biblical scholar. Extraordinarily, Morris received no formal theological education, apart from two years of supervision for his doctorate in Cambridge. He was self-taught theologian who brought his rigorous and disciplined training in scientific enquiry to his study of the Bible and theology.

Great author! "Apostolic Preaching of the Cross" is great on the various distinctions and categories within salvation: redemption, reconciliation, justification, propitiation, atonement, etc. Very clear and enjoyable scholarly style for students, laypeople and professionals.

He's home!

I've enjoyed and profited from a number of Morris' works, and have enjoyed some of his lectures or sermons; you can get some from online.

Apostolic Preaching is an epochal work, but my favorite is his Gospel of John, for the NICNT series.

Best commentary on John's Gospel that i ever read. The man was utterly brilliant. With Walter Martin and others recently departed he deserved the title Defender of the Faith

No formal theological training? He earned a BDIV, THM, and PHD. Sounds pretty formal to me.

Great author. Probably one of the best New Testament Theologians firmly rooted on the believing side.
