Bishop Talking Points [Schori]
Midwest Conservative Journal ^ | 7/24/2006 | Christopher Johnson

Posted on 07/24/2006 4:42:46 PM PDT by sionnsar

Katharine Jefferts Schori chats with CBS's Russ Mitchell(a Webster Groves High School grad, by the way) and covers much of the usual ground.  First off, there's ECUSA's universalism and its horror at terms like sin and repentance:

Some people who don’t think that the presiding bishop of the church should condone homosexuality and same-sex marriage.

"Well, my sense is that Jesus invited everybody to the table, to the great feast, and that for us to say that some people are not fit to come to that feast, is not our task," Jefferts Schori said.

The indifference to the Current Unpleasantness.

Since Jefferts Schori’s election, a number of dioceses have come out and have been critical. A leader in Springfield, Ill., said: "I think the Episcopalian Church is in meltdown. The lowest ebb of our beloved and beleaguered church since perhaps the Civil War if not the American Revolution."

"It’s predictable," Jefferts Schori said. "People who have been unhappy at the course of the church’s direction over the last couple of decades, this is another piece that may offend some. It tells them change is happening whether they are interested in that change or not."

Hallucination about ECUSA's relations with the rest of the Anglican world.

Does she care what other churches think?

"Absolutely. Absolutely and I think our most recent general convention was very clear about the fact that we are very concerned about our membership in the Anglican communion and our relationships with other parts of the Anglican community," Jefferts Schori said.

What would an interview like this be without the patriarchy dodge?

Some of the opposition might be coming from the simple fact that she’s a woman.

"I think that’s a significant piece of it," Jefferts Schori said. "I think a number of changes in attitude of the church over the last century have offended old ways of understanding who should be in charge. Is it a white male who will rule in the church or is it not?"

And Kate finishes things off with a hope that ECUSA gets back to its "mission" of being the United Nations at "prayer."

Well, I would hope to see a church that is less focused on internal division and far more focused on the world around us, transforming the communities in which we live," Jefferts Schori said.

The bishops who elected her know that, like Frank Griswold, Jefferts Schori is one of them and won't get in their way.  And if the left does want to start coming down hard on the Network bishops, Jefferts Schori will support them.  So the left will praise Jefferts Schori's "leadership" and look on approvingly as she mouths more inane platitudes like these over the next nine years.

If she really wants to get any of this done, perhaps she should go sit at Peter Toon's feet and learn what true obfuscation is.

Silly Church. As they say, High church crazy... I didn't know they meant literally insane. I'm gone, looking at it in my rear view window. Hope I don't end up like Lot's wife.

Yes, agree, Silly Church. The sad thing is how many they are going to take with them.

I would sorely hate to be an Episcopal bishop when I someday have to explain to a Higher Authority what I did to advance the Gospel. The scriptures are very clear the shepherds will be called to account as to how they shepherded their flock.

"Silly woman."

No she is a very dangerous woman like $inator Clintoon.

We are hearing across the nation that she is really a moderate. Those of us who disagree are the silly ones with those who call her a moderate.
