Some Catholics Believe ProLife Means Vegetarian

What you have done to these the least of My brethren you have done unto Me.

CATHOLIC VEGETARIAN SAINTS

St Francis of Assisi, St Clare, stigmatist St Therese Neumann, St. Martin de Porres, St John Chrysostom, St Anthony of Padua who preached to fishes when humans would not listen.. St Nicholas of Tolentino* believed they were following the example of Jesus in not eating His animals. Trappists, Cistercians, Benedictines, Franciscans all have had a tradition of vegetarian diet, to which many still adhere. The pretzel was says George Cornell former AP religion writer a Lenten bread, symbolizing arms folded in prayer.. Lentils were named as such because they were a Lenten vegetarian alternative to animal flesh. Meatless Fridays were the last vestige of early Christian abstinence from meat in following Christ's example. A papal bull once excommunicated anyone who attended a bullfight because the barbaric cruelty in them. This was later amended to excommunicate only priests who blessed bullfighting. BIBLICAL ORIGINS Genesis 1: 29, Isaiah 65, Daniel 1 Exodus 26: 34 are some of the thousands of quotes in the Bible on vegetarian diet. The command to feed the hungry, given by Jesus in His Sermon on the Mount, implies vegetarianism since the flesh of animals yields 100 to 1000 lbs an acre, dairy products around 10,000 lbs. an acre, some vegetables, 81,000 lbs. an acre, and fruits from centenarian fruit trees 450,000 or more lbs. an acre. Therefore Genesis fruit trees yield 450 times what slaughterhouses yield. Daniel O'Steen, of National Right To Life, felt he must be consistent in his prolife stance and so many years ago became a vegetarian. Clare Obis, mother of 6 boys, created a successful media campaign when Mike Royko refused to allow her vegetarian gluten ribs in his cooking contest.

I can't remember where it is in the Book of Acts, where the non kosher meats were opened up for everyone, but its there. If some Catholic wants to be a vegetarian, thats fine, but don't try to make church doctrine of it.

Then why were we given laws concerning clean and unclean animals?

The disciples were told to eat what was set before the with out questioning where it came from.

If you can't eat meat then fish on friday doesn't make sense.

If you can't eat meat then fish on Friday doesn't make sense. Church tradition that started in order to help fishermen. Way back centuries ago in Italy, fish fell out of favor as a dietary staple. Some pope or cardinal made fish an exemption for Fridays.

Jesus spent a lot of time with fishermen.

And when HE made them "fishers of men", HE wasn't suggesting a switch
to canniblism!

A papal bull once excommunicated anyone who attended a bullfight

Yea but the bull was acting in his own self interest. Now if a papal gazelle excommunicated someone for attending a bullfight-that would be news.

Interesting.

I don't want to be a stick in the mud.

But I'm not particularly fond of that title: "Some Catholics Believe ProLife Means Vegetarian." It seriously rubs me the wrong way.

I guess because there are those parish bulletins out there, with a whole page devoted to good things like protecting the environment and helping kittens at the local animal shelter. And not one mention of the human babies that are in need of protection. I mean, we have human slaughterhouses in this country. They're called abortion mills.

What am I trying to say? The problem is, "Some Catholics Believe ProLife Means Vegetarian." And that's all they think it means.

I have no problem with someone wanting to be vegetarian. But if we are not suppose to eat animals why did God make them taste like meat?

Well, hello there ... you're welcome to be a fruitie if you like ...

Me?

I'll eat fish and good, red meat. If it's good enough for Jesus Christ, true God and true Man, I'm not about to argue with Him.

Some Catholics should read the bible

Genesis 9:3
Every creature that is alive shall be yours to eat; I give them all to you as I did the green plants.

Nice try, troll. It's your first post and you post tripe. Hey, have you ever eaten tripe? It's meat and tastes delicious.

I guess it would work if God figured you'd always have beans and rice available for your meals. You have to have complete amino acids; and you can get them EITHER through animal protein OR through eating BOTH beans and rice TOGETHER...period.

since the flesh of animals yields 100 to 1000 lbs an acre, dairy products around 10,000 lbs. an acre, some vegetables, 81,000 lbs. an acre, and fruits from centenarian fruit trees 450,000 or more lbs. an acre.

Meaningless statistics. Meat production depends on the specie of animals and the method of raising it. Many times hoofstock is raised on land that is not suited to vegetable production. So that "useless" land now produces food.

And since when did Jesus become a vegetarian?! He ate fish even after he rose. And the Passover usually served lamb!

If people stop eating animals, animals are still going to eat animals. Or is some eco-nazi going to convince them to be vegetarians too?

I can't remember where it is in the Book of Acts

Chapter 10

A voice said to him, "Get up, Peter. Slaughter and eat."

But Peter said, "Certainly not, sir. For never have I eaten anything profane and unclean."

The voice spoke to him again, a second time, "What God has made clean, you are not to call profane."

I guess we could also turn to Jesus saying it is not what goes into you that makes you unclean but what comes out of you.

Hmmm. Maybe these Catholics are "Catholics". Sort of like John Kerry is Catholic.

Or maybe in that great American Christian tradition they have beguiled themselves into thinking they have received "new light".
