My oldest took Benedict's name at confirmation. So he woke up and went to early morning Mass with me this morning. And our pastor gave a wonderful homily about St. Benedict and tied in Pope Benedict and the re-evangelization of Europe. He talked about being a witness with our daily living, quoting from Pope Benedict's addresses from this past weekend. Great stuff for my son to hear just as he's ready to go off to university in the fall.
Jesus went around to all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the Gospel of the Kingdom, and curing every disease and illness. At the sight of the crowds, his heart was moved with pity for them because they were troubled and abandoned, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the Master of the harvest to send out laborers for His harvest.
What a great story! If only more parents would take their children to daily Mass. Families miss so much by not attending.
Makes my heart ache for them.
