PB-elect Schori on NPR

For anyone who doubts that the newly elected Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church is a dedicated partisan of the left in the present crisis, take a look at the quotes from her interview yesterday with Diane Rehm on NPR. And remember, she was almost certainly trying to be "diplomatic" during her turn in the national spotlight. Some highlights:

On dioceses threatening to “leave the church”:
The diocese as an entity is a creature of General Convention and unless and until General Convention gives consent for them to leave it simply represents the departure of a few individuals. RWF translation: Even if a bishop, standing committee, and duly-called diocesan covention vote to leave the Episcopal Church, I can simply declare the see and standing committee vacant, call a new diocesan convention made up of the Schori-loyal rump that remains behind (no matter how small), and have the new loyalist bishop I consecrate litigate for all the property in the diocese under the Dennis Canon.

On gay and lesbian people in the life of the Episcopal Church:
We have been ordaining gay persons in this church for years and years … in recent years they have been able to be open about their sexual orientation and honest about that -- I don’t see any retreat from that among deacons and priests … I think we will experience at least a pause in the consecration of bishops who are openly gay and that makes me very sad because I believe that God equally calls people of both sexual orientations to leadership in this church. I firmly believe that gay and lesbian Christians bless us all by their presence and that we need to continue to work at finding a way to include them in all aspects of the community’s life.

On General Convention’s response to the Windsor Report in B033: It is the Episcopal Church’s response at the current moment – I don’t think it represents a final response -- it opens the door to the next stage of conversation. I think many of us were disappointed that it came to that. My sense was that it was the most we were going to be able to manage at that late hour in the convention … convention makes policy, it doesn’t rule on matter of doctrine, and those policies are routinely reversed and revised every three years. I think it is a pause – I do not see it as slamming the door – I think it is an unfortunate way of inviting us into the next chapter of the conversation.

On the blessing of same-sex relationships: When a priest agrees to preside at the wedding of a heterosexual couple that priest uses his or her best judgment that this couple is capable of a sacramental relationship. The priest is never “certain” of that -- but the priest lives in hope that that is a real possibility – and then the couple themselves act as ministers of the sacrament -- the priest is only there to pronounce the blessing. And I think that thinking about it in that way may help us all to see the possibility for any couple to enter into a faithful, life-long relationship.

Well, when I put this latest string of outrages down beside the historical ones, it matches up very well. I would like to be able to assure people that this is something new and that there is no precedent for the orthodox to refer to to refute the current heretics. But I can't. No one element of this has not happened before and been the cause of some part of the church descending into the rubble of history and for a good number of well-meaning but uninformed souls going down to Hell on the advice of their apostate leaders.

But one thing does emerge: Scripture is proven, once again, to be accurate, true and wise in all its parts. The pursuit of mammon is the root of all evil. Ye shall not lie with a man as ye lie with a woman, it is an abomination before the LORD. etc.

>>On dioceses threatening to “leave the church”...<<

This is right in line with what I've predicted in other postings. Those dioceses who are asking for alternative primatial oversight are likely to be declared "abandoned" & then the land grab begins!

Yup. Have you read about the new term for Classical Anglicans? Theo-terrorists. And those wanting to maintain the Anglican Communion....curial-fundamentalists.

Just sick. Read here (Ruth Gledhill's blog) about theo-terrorists and curial-fundamentalists. I'm posting it here for posterity:

"In fact, if we let them leave with all their resources we have simply given them a platform to carry on their promised war against TEC. Remember, please, that they are collecting parish directories in order to allow their lay arm to continue to agitate among TEC's membership.

"So step one is to promise them a long legal battle for every scrap of property and every dime in every bank account. We need to make it clear they will spend the next ten years litigating.

"The standard is that if there is one person in a parish or one person in a Diocese who wish to remain in TEC they become the legitimate stewards of everything that is now TEC's

"Second, let's remember that these folks have no constituency from which to draw for growth. Catholics will always pick Rome over Rome wannabes and in the evangelical-fundamentalist world the folks withdrawing from TEC are guppies among sharks.

"Their fantasy life says that they will grow and grow and just show us all, but the reality is that apart from the Truros and Planos, they have lived sheltered lives as bible thumpers. Which means, again, that they can only hope to grow from trying to sew more discord in TEC.

"Third, I certainly hope that in San Joachin, South Carolina, Pittsburgh and Fort Worth people are preparing Diocesan Conventions to replace those who are leaving. Whomever has the authority should declare those Sees vacant and support local folks as they re-organize. This same organizing should begin now in every other Diocese that has withdrawn it's accession to the Canons and Constitution.

"Fourth, we are already an international church, spanning turf from Taiwan to France. We should offer alternative primatial oversight to any parish or Diocese anywhere in the world who would rather be associated with TEC than the curial-fundamentalist WWAC emerging under ++Rowan's mismanagement. Before he assigns us second class status, let's demonstrate the power of a participatory democratic church. We should be prepared to welcome as Sister and Brother Provinces those like Scotland, Ireland, Wales, South Africa, Brazil, etc who will not support the emerging shape of the WWAC.

"Hopefully the Executive Council and the PB's office will take leadership in these matters, but if not, then instead of continuing to worry over the true impact of B033, we could instead become proactive in this full court press against the theo-terrorists of the ACN-IRD-AAC-NAG-ACI grouping."

Marxist. There is a special place in Hell for this person.

The fact is, if enough parishes & dioceses find a backbone & tell TEC to take a hike, TEC won't have the resources to fight a protracted legal battle. These hellions with their radical feminist & homosexual agendas are Neo-Anglicans...no, Pseudo-Anglicans...who take, take, take, but seldom give. These are the sort that drop a lousy $10 in the plate on Sunday & expect that that will cover the cost of 10 years of paying a lawyer $500/hour to attempt to STEAL the property & assets of the people who actually built the church they now covet with their tithes, & gifts, & endowments. Theo-terrorists? Curial-fundamentalists? I don't need to engage in "new age" wordsmithing to find an appropriate retort for these demoniacs...they are, quite simply, two-bit thugs.

Perhaps there are limits to "inclusivity," er, "tolerance", er, (whatever the codephrase is today).

He didn't mention "metrosexuals", either.

How on earth could he forget all those poor misunderstood flashers on commuter trains?
