Sheese. The good Cardinal has just provided the very recipe for empty churches: "guitars on the altar and rock and roll Masses." Or maybe he hasn't noticed what has happened over the last 40 years.

The latest issue of the newsletter of the Latin Liturgy Association (http://www.latinliturgy.com) features two book reviews which were originally published in "Extension" magazine back in the 1960s when the modernization of church music began. One of these books discusses a Bossa Nova Mass!

I guess that would make sense if Sergio Mendes were your parish's music director (or is it music minister?).

Selective hearing and vision. Revisionist history. Call it what you want, but these guys haven't sat in a congregation lately or they would know that the congregations are more likely to sing the older stuff that is written in the middle register of the voice and is paced so that the words are easy to pronounce. Truly. It belies everything we've been told in the last 30 years.

Actually, he's proposed the formula for "Six Flags Over Jesus" churches--the non-denominational phenoms which are growing rapidly.

There, too, worship is "all about MEEEE!!!" and what makes me FFFEEEEEEEEELLLLLL good."

And as a bonus: there are no real SINS!
