This could be called the summer of triumph for gay theology. The majority opinion on the Supreme Court's highly controversial decision to overturn Texas' sodomy laws plainly opened doors to viewing law as responsive to cultural vicissitudes. In keeping with the prevailing winds of culture, never has so much official sanction been given to active homosexuality in the Church, indeed even at leadership levels.
Despite plenty of internecine jostling, an Anglican minister in British Columbia blessed the union of a gay couple. Then, the Episcopal diocese of New Hampshire elected openly gay priest V. Gene Robinson as bishop.
In defiance of directives from the Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams, titular head of the worldwide Anglican church (known as Episcopal Church in the U.S.) and despite protests of bishops the world over, ECUSA bishops approved Robinson's election soon afterwards. This renders the denomination "formally heretical," according to conservative theologian Kendall Harmon, who also edits the Anglican Digest.
In response, conservative American bishops expressed deep sadness and regret that the Church had stepped outside the bounds of agesold tradition and the "plain teaching of Scripture," according to a report in World. Archbishop Williams warned of "irrevocable fallout" and foreign prelates began denouncing the move immediately. A split in the worldwide body seems eminent to many.
Other mainline denominations in the U.S., like United Methodists, Presbyterian Church (USA) and United Churches of Christ are all at some stage of either studying the issue in an "open" manner and leaning progay or already acting out this decision with gay ceremonies and clergy-out of step, it seems, with many who fill their pews.
A poll conducted last week by the Washington Post revealed "heavy opposition" to "blessings of gay couples."
In fact, the Post reports that, "Half of all Americans who regularly attend worship services [including those outside mainline churches] say they would leave their church if their minister blessed gay couples-even if their denomination officially approved those ceremonies."
Evangelicals, Pentecostals, independent churches and other Christians remain strongly opposed and their members often wonder at how Christians could even entertain such notions as liturgies to bless the union of samesex couples. Nothing less than the definition of marriage is at stake.
Ethicist Max Stackhouse of Princeton University claims, as many others like Dr. Robert Gagnon have, that this opens the door to the sanction of any kind of pairing at all, including incest and multiple partners.

She places him alongside other opportunistic historians who "set out to create a usable past," that is, to manufacture a historical precendent through dubious appeals to ancient rites that fit contemporary preferences-in this case the supposed blessing of homosexual unions.
Rescuing the Gospel from Bishop Spong Don Closson This essay considers and responds to Episcopal Bishop John Shelby Spong's view of the Bible and historical Christian beliefs as found in his book "Rescuing the Bible from Fundamentalism." Spong's views, based upon a low and anti-supernatural view of Scripture, include the notion that the Apostle Paul was a "guilt-ridden homosexual" and that biblical norms on sexuality, etc. are out of step with modern life.

My Godly Methodist grandparents (died 1955 & 1964) would be as heartbroken as Wesley. They were never comfortable about my dad changing his membership from a Methodist to a Baptist church.
Today's UMC overall would be a great disappointment to them, but I can't picture them going to another denomination. I'm sure they would try to find a local Methodist church to attend which is still doctrinally sound in it's teaching and practices even though they would thoroughly disapprove of the course the UMC has taken over the last few decades.

A church's official position is just that.
Anyone who doesn't follow it is open to criticism. One can only assume that the church keeps affirming their official postion because most folks want it that way.
No, ZC isn't. Comparing the truth to what these denominations and religions of men are doing and saying will always cause confusion among seekers - that's the reason why they come. Have you not heard the parable?
The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field; but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went his way. Pauls clearly says in v9, this is his "want".....churches of his period were split in worship styles..women on one side, men on the other. Any questions of thier husbands would prove disruptive as they'd have to literally shout it across the worship area - hence the admonition that they remain silent until they get home.
9I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, 10but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God. 11A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. 12I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent. 13For Adam was formed first, then Eve. 14And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner. 15But women will be saved through childbearingif they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.
are women actually saved through childbearing - again, this is Pauls opinion
and finally, I'll respectfully ask you if your church allows women to teach children in Sunday school ?, does it have female missionaries ?, arent they teachers of the gospel ?

No, I think they'd approve of what it's done over the last 2 decades. It was the decades from about 40-70's where liberalism took over the church. You know why?
1. People sat on their hands and let "Joe" volunteer to be their representative at meetings and on committees. (Liberals love to occupy positions of influence. "Joe" was oneof those liberals.)
2. They "left" the church to show their disapproval. (Should have stayed to vote the libs out.)
The last 2 decades we've won every single vote at annual conference and have gradually been turning this thing around.

I may be joining the "cut and run" crowd. We seem to be having an issue with a "many paths" message from the pulpit.
Since it is clear that the Apostle Paul believed that all "are saved by grace through faith and that not of ourselves...", then it is also clear that he means some other kind of "salvation" in this passage.
I think he means "relieved of a tendency" that relates to being deceived in the earlier passage.
That would make sense in the context of "child-bearing." Paul appears to be saying that "a family makes a woman more serious-minded."
Then throw the rascal out.
