That's a distinction without a difference, particularly in light of the fact that it is said to sit on "seven hills"...what do the seven hills mean?
And where, then, do we suppose is the "Babylon" that appears in 1 Peter 5? Old Babylon was completely desolated by then. When early Christian literature refers to Babylon, it always means Rome.
I'm not sure which claim you mean. The Church in Revelations 12?
From the fact that the dragon persecuted the woman, from the fact that she had 12 stars as a crown (12 tribes of Israel and 12 Apostles), and from the fact that it's pretty much always interpreted that way. :)
This imagery is nothing new of course. In Galatians 4:26, Paul calls the Church "Jerusalem which is above is free, the mother of us all." Nothing wrong with calling the Church our Mother...it's totally Biblical.
That is why we speak of Apostolic SUCCESSION. The power of the keys, which our Lord gave only to St. Peter among the apostles, continues on. Or do you believe that the gates of hell have prevailed against the Church?
Yes, I think that's accurate. Israel and by extension, the Church, the "New Israel".

I believe you see that gentiles are grafted into Israel. There is no replacement for Israel. There is no Corporate "church". The Koine Greek word Ekklesia is a congregation or a group of "called out" ones. I think if you re-read Romans 11, paying particular attention
b'shem Y'shua
to the metaphor of the olive tree.
Oh, I agree wholeheartedly! Israel was not replaced, just opened up to the Gentile world.
There is no Corporate "church".
Well, here's where I beg to differ. If you go back to the Latin of "corporate" you see it comes from "corpus", i.e. body. And surely you know that the Church is indeed the Body of Christ. Thus, it is the "corporate" institution par excellence.
