02 March 2006, 17:50 Two major Jewish organizations in Russia hold talks on coordination of their efforts

Moscow, March 2, Interfax - The Federation of Jewish Communities in Russia (FJCR) and the Congress of Jewish Religious Organizations and Associations in Russia (CJROAR) are holding talks on coordination of their work, representatives of both structures have informed Interfax on Thursday.

In mid-February, the FJRC Chairman Alexander Boroda sent a letter to the CJROAR proposing to merge into one organization to become legally and actually the only representative of orthodox Judaism in Russia.

‘According to this plan, each side is to contribute its property to the united company. All the regional communities of these organizations are to merge into one system. Where there are two communities and two rabbis in a city, both join in the new organization, that is, become cooperated if possible. If this is impossible, the communities exist in the new organization enjoying equal rights’, Alexander Boroda explained to the agency.

According to him, Berel Lazar and Adolf Shaevich would be chief rabbis of the organization, and a united staff could be established on the basis of the FJRC and CJROAR management in proportion to the number of the cities.

As the CJROAR press service has informed Interfax, the leaders of this organization see no obstacles for establishing cooperation with the FJRC on the level of coordination of efforts for the revival and consolidation of Jewish community institutions in Russia.

At the same time, the CJROAR leaders are not ready to support the proposal for establishing a single structure with the FJRC ‘because of historically established theological differences’, the press service noted.

Meanwhile, the CJROAR does not see ‘any reasons obstructing the cooperation and coordination of joint work on a secular basis’.

As a result it was agreed to refer to CJROAR Presidium the proposal for a Coordinating Jewish Council as a structure responsible for coordination of joint efforts by the CJROAR and the FJRC. It is envisaged that each organization would recognize the autonomy and independence of the other and have its own chief rabbi, as has been the case so far.

The terms of reference for the Coordinating Council is planned to include such matters as setting priorities in the efforts to revive and develop the infrastructure of the Jewish community, monitoring and opposing anti-Semitism and xenophobia, exchanging the experience of community life and defining a common stand on issues of public concern.

And Israel sells weapons to China, what's your point?

Both us and Russia have pledged not to give them ad unless certain conditions are met.
